The Frank Ohman School of Ballet was founded in 1979 by Frank Ohman, former soloist at New York City Ballet (NYCB) and is one of the few remaining direct links to the teaching of George Balanchine. Currently located in Commack, the school serves as a training ground for promising young dancers and offers aspiring students the opportunity to learn classical ballet in the tradition of George Balanchine. The Frank Ohman School of Ballet will guide your child from first steps to advanced technique, while instilling joy for this timeless art form. The school is a non-competition, non-recital school focusing on proper classical technique.

There are many interesting people to meet and many partners to dance with. All you need to do is get out here. You are invited to join our Dance Club on our quest to dance socially and have fun everywhere where possible. Before going to socials we suggest to learn at least basic steps of few most popular social dances like: Salsa, Merengue, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Swing and Hustle. The directors, Nana and Fred Albee, have operated a successful dance school for over 36 years. As professional dancers, Nana performed with the American Ballet Theatre, then on Broadway in the production of "The Music Man", where she met Fred. Afterwards, they set out as a dance team and performed as soloists at Radio City Music Hall, appeared in Las Vegas and on national TV shows. Fred has assisted choreographer Danny Daniels ("Pennies from Heaven", "Tap Dance Kid") many times and taught the children's program for the "Tap Dance Kid", where one of his students was Savion Glover. Stars they have taught include: Gilda Radner, Olivia Newton John and Marisa Tomei. Marisa was a student of theirs for many years.

Capoeira Angola, an ancient martial art of African origin, is one of the many cultural weapons used to break the chains of enslavement in Brazil. Played close to the ground, Capoeira Angola combines fluid, dance-like movements with kicks, head butts, tripping sweeps and the appearance of playfulness or vulnerability. Music is played on traditional instruments to accompany the players, to teach the rhythmic heart of the art, and also to mask its power. In the eyes of the enslavers it appeared to be a joking and playful acrobatic dance, but eventually its power was realized and Capoeira was outlawed. Death was the penalty paid by those caught playing Capoeira during the slavery era. For almost 400 years Capoeira Angola was taught and practiced in secret, and only in the 1930's did this African martial art become legal to teach and practice.

The American Theater Dance began in 1982 as The American Dancemachine, a professional company and school, whose mission it was to reconstruct, perform and preserve the great dance numbers from Broadway shows. When founder/director Lee Theodore died in 1986, we became The American Theater Dance Workshop.
