The year 2008 marks the 125th anniversary of the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium. For more than a century the Hatchery has operated as a trout rearing facility, and now in more recent times, has evolved into an Environmental Education Center where the general public can pursue their interest in nature-related activities. From its humble beginnings in 1883 as a New York State run trout facility, the Hatchery has developed and progressed during the past twenty-five years into a multi-functional Environmental Education Facility with exhibits and aquaria that serve the local communities, Long Island and the greater New York area.
