Classic Sofa was founded over 17 years ago by Maurice Stone and his sons with the goal of providing upholstered furniture of old world quality and style at an approachable price. Originating from the Flat Iron District in New York City we have grown to a modest group of showrooms servicing some of the finest communities in the Northeast as well as becoming an essential resource to the trade.
All of our furniture is handmade by seasoned craftsman in our own workrooms (one of the secrets to our industry-leading delivery times) so we can maintain the highest standards. Frames are constructed of hardwoods. Down fill is standard. And we provide a selection of fabrics from the finest design house in the world. When asked about his earliest antique acquisition, Karl Kemp replies, "It was a Biedermeier chair, which I purchased at my mother's suggestion. I was only 20 or 21 years old, but I bought it myself."
Kemp's mother, a woman of great taste and education, was also a fine collector of antiques. From their home in Cologne, Germany, she instilled in him an appreciation for the Neo-Classical decorative arts of the early 19th Century. Her guidance ultimately lead to Kemp to study the finer points of art history and architecture.
Ironically, Mr. Kemp did not immediately pursue his presnt vocation. his professional goals brought him to New York City in the early 1970's, where he held the position of Chief of Acquisitons at The Brooklyn Public Library.

Las Venus opened in 1995 on Ludlow Street in the up-and- coming Lower East Side of Manhattan. In the late 1990's, the Lower East Side experienced a renaissance, emerging as one of New York City's hippest neighborhoods. Las Venus and its celebration of 20th Century Pop Culture quickly became the talk of Ludlow Street.
Planned from the start to be a lively, artfully cluttered, friendly store, boasting a huge and ever-changing inventory of colorfully outrageous pieces, Las Venus has attracted a great deal of attention from the print and broadcast media. Fashion shoots featuring models lounging and cavorting on Las Venus furniture have livened up Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and other international magazines. Numerous music videos have been shot in Las Venus and MTV does regular broadcasts from the store with VJs interviewing music stars such as Bjork.

In 1953, two sisters from Cincinnati, Ohio came to New York City seeking adventure. Annie and Martha came up with the idea of making furniture out of various "parts". With flush doors and different sized legs they built dining tables, coffee tables, beds, sofas, room dividers, shelving, benches, and more.
These new creations were put on display in their first store, located in a brownstone on 51st Street and 3rd Avenue, which they named "Furniture in Parts". Annie and Martha lived just above their store and put all their energies into their new business.
Their hard work paid off when an editor from 'Look' magazine took notice of their novel approach to furniture and design. He wrote an article, accompanied with photos, all about their unique concept. It was in this 'Look' magazine article that their store "Furniture in Parts" was appropriately nick-named "Door Store". The article drew so much attention that several more newspaper and magazine stories followed. Most people associate the name Aga with good food and fine living. And although it’s often thought of as quintessentially British, the Aga actually began life in Sweden. The celebrated cooker found in 750,000 households worldwide was invented by Dr Gustav Dalén, a blind Nobel Prize-winning physicist. Appalled that his wife and their maid had to constantly tend to their old-fashioned range, Dalén set out to design a modern cooker that would look after itself. It’s unlikely Dalén could have predicted that his invention would go on to be widely acclaimed as a design icon, but it has. Mike's Furniture Store is a furniture store with ready-made pieces, finished or unfinished. There are many colors of products for you to choose from with our color matching chart. Custom made furniture is also available if you bring in a sketch of what it is you want. We will then attempt to build it. Moldings are available to add onto anything you may already have.
