  18 E 16th St - New York, NY
Breads Bakery is a New York bakery dedicated to producing artisanal, handmade breads using traditional baking techniques. Most of the artisan breads we bake are made with whole grains and go through a slow proofing process, which sharpens and improves the taste. A lot of thought has been given to the components of the bread, types of flour and the addition of seeds and grains which increase the nutritional value. We select only the finest ingredients and, when possible, use natural and organic ingredients. The bakery bakes both sweet and savory items including rustic breads and pastries. It fills us with satisfaction to feed and to host. Much thought is put into this - making it comfortable, pleasant, appetizing, aromatic, satisfying and abundant. We let our work speak for itself.

With its vintage American desserts and decor, customers often remark that walking into the Bakery is like taking a step back in time. In 2007, the original owner decided to pass her oven mitts to a new family she felt would maintain the integrity of what had become an iconic brand. And so, Steve Abrams, a veteran NYC restaurateur and consultant along with his wife and daughter, took over the Bakery. Since then they have slowly and thoughtfully expanded from one shop to six.

Bread, hearty and wholesome, with a firm slice and a good crust. Alain Coumont learned about bread as a small child, standing on a chair every Sunday watching his grandmother bake bread. As a young chef in Brussels, Alain could not find the right bread for his restaurant.
Passionate about quality, he returned to his roots and opened a small bakery where he could knead flour, salt and water into the rustic loaves of his childhood.

Later, the demand fo his Italian pastries and cakes won him awards in Rome, Bolognia, and at the New York World’s Fair.
