No dia 05 de maio de 1942 foi inaugurada a primeira loja Casa Prataviera no centro de Caxias do Sul. Sua principal área de atuação era a comercialização de tecidos e aviamentos.
Com o passar dos anos a empresa evoluiu e conquistou uma estrutura de 6 andares para atendimento ao público consumidor. Abrangendo mais de 100 mil clientes cadastrados, possuía um sistema de crédito próprio. Dispunha também de uma equipe de aproximadamente 380 colaboradores.
No final de 1992, através da aguçada percepção mercadológica do seu corpo diretivo, ocorreu a decisão de empreender um novo negócio, que viria a ser o primeiro shopping center da cidade.
Assim, em 29 de julho de 1993, foi inaugurado o então Prataviera Shopping.
Localizado no centro da Cidade de Caxias do Sul, o Prataviera Shopping destaca-se pelo bem-sucedido mix de serviços e conveniência. Kahala Mall is home to a number of nationally and internationally recognized businesses, including Whole Foods Market, Apple Store, Macy's, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Radio Shack, Chili's and California Pizza Kitchen.
Local merchants and a number of independently-owned shops and restaurants can also be found within the mall perimeter. An eight-screen Consolidated Theatres movie theater is nestled into one corner of the mall. Waialae Bowl, the only bowling center within several miles of the neighborhood, was somewhat interestingly built into a McDonald's, at the corner opposite the movie theater. Unfortunately, it has since closed down (not related to the flood, however.) The movie theater in this mall was closed in March 2006. It has since reopened. The closing occurred as a result of flooding from heavy rains. The flood broke a hole through the wall of the theater and flowed into the mall, and parts of the ground floor had 3-6 inches of rain water. Many shops suffered substantially; some never reopened.
