Classic Sofa was founded over 17 years ago by Maurice Stone and his sons with the goal of providing upholstered furniture of old world quality and style at an approachable price. Originating from the Flat Iron District in New York City we have grown to a modest group of showrooms servicing some of the finest communities in the Northeast as well as becoming an essential resource to the trade.
All of our furniture is handmade by seasoned craftsman in our own workrooms (one of the secrets to our industry-leading delivery times) so we can maintain the highest standards. Frames are constructed of hardwoods. Down fill is standard. And we provide a selection of fabrics from the finest design house in the world. Totem currently represents 40 designers and manufactures form the United States and Europe, selling their products through wholesale channels as well as its retail showroom located at 71 Franklin Street in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City. Totem recently opened Totem Soho gallery, located in the heart of Soho on Greene Street.

In 1953, two sisters from Cincinnati, Ohio came to New York City seeking adventure. Annie and Martha came up with the idea of making furniture out of various "parts". With flush doors and different sized legs they built dining tables, coffee tables, beds, sofas, room dividers, shelving, benches, and more.
These new creations were put on display in their first store, located in a brownstone on 51st Street and 3rd Avenue, which they named "Furniture in Parts". Annie and Martha lived just above their store and put all their energies into their new business.
Their hard work paid off when an editor from 'Look' magazine took notice of their novel approach to furniture and design. He wrote an article, accompanied with photos, all about their unique concept. It was in this 'Look' magazine article that their store "Furniture in Parts" was appropriately nick-named "Door Store". The article drew so much attention that several more newspaper and magazine stories followed. In August 1893, John Willis, Jr. opened his first furniture store on Church Street, opposite St. Paul's church in downtown Norfolk. In 1901, he moved to the comer of Main and Church Streets in Norfolk in the Purcell Building that had been a hotel at one time. In 1912, he was the first occupant of the Mastin Building, later to become Smith and Welton Department Store.

Bill ’s Bedding is not the largest store in Connecticut. It also is not the oldest. But we are a one store, family owned and operated, full-line furniture store that has served Eastern Connecticut for almost 75 years.

It all started in 1936 by Martha and Samuel Gorin. They opened an upholstery shop at 81 Franklin Street in downtown Norwich, known then as the Colonial Upholstery Company. They eventually expanded and became the Colonial Upholstery and Bedding Company. As the years passed, they grew, taking over the four floors of 81 through 87 Franklin Street and renamed the company to the Colonial Upholstery and Furniture Company.
