Jorday Rivera is a remarkable woman who leads a double life. By day, Jorday is an honorary Pre Med. Graduate student at St. John's University. The head intern for the chief of cardiology at The Parkway Hospital for the past four years. Within the next six months Jorday will attend either NYU or Columbia Medical School. She will study Neonatal and later become a heart surgeon and open her own practice.

The directors, Nana and Fred Albee, have operated a successful dance school for over 36 years. As professional dancers, Nana performed with the American Ballet Theatre, then on Broadway in the production of "The Music Man", where she met Fred. Afterwards, they set out as a dance team and performed as soloists at Radio City Music Hall, appeared in Las Vegas and on national TV shows. Fred has assisted choreographer Danny Daniels ("Pennies from Heaven", "Tap Dance Kid") many times and taught the children's program for the "Tap Dance Kid", where one of his students was Savion Glover. Stars they have taught include: Gilda Radner, Olivia Newton John and Marisa Tomei. Marisa was a student of theirs for many years.

Founded by artistic director Diana Byer in 1978 as the official training school of New York Theatre Ballet. The School teaches dance as a total art form, developing strong technical skill and discipline…fluidity and ease of movement…and a strong sense of theater, style, musicality, and expression. It is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the great ballet mistress Margaret Craske. She was certified by Enrico Cecchetti and served as director of instruction at BSNY for many years until her retirement in 1987.

Beth Jucovy has performed extensively and given workshops and classes in Duncan, ballet, modern, and jazz techniques both in the US and throughout Europe and Israel. She choreographs for and directs Dance Visions, a professional company performing works of contemporary choreographers, as well as the works of major dance pioneers. Dance Visions has been the recipient of over fifteen NYSCA decentralization grants. The company performs throughout Long Island and the NY metropolitan area. Beth also danced for a decade with Andrew Jannetti and Dancers, performing frequently at many NYC venues. She was a soloist with the Downtown Ballet Company for six years, as well as with Ameridance International, a jazz dance company based in Munich, Germany. She is an Isadora Duncan dance specialist trained since childhood by Julia Levien. She had also worked intensively with Anna Sokolow. Melissa Marotto has been dancing for over 20 years, beginning her dance training at The Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts. She earned her BFA in dance with a concentration in pedagogy from The Boston Conservatory, where she revived the historical work for Jose Limon with Jennifer Scanlon and worked with contemporary choreographers such as Donald Byrd and Sean Curran. With a strong background in ballet, Ms. Marotto has also studied Graham, Horton, Limon, and Simonson techniques with certified instructors from all over the country.

Ms. King began dancing professionally in 1978 and has been teaching and choreographing since 1986. She directed the dance departments of St. Peter School, St. Mary and Holy Rosary Schools in Jersey City and has taught in Brooklyn at P.S. 315, School of Performing Arts, Poly Prep, Maple Street School, I.S. 62 Performing Arts Department, Flatbush Tompkins, Bridge Street Head Start, and even the Fort Hamilton Army Base. Ms. King has been credited by the Department of Education with developing "one of the most comprehensive dance programs in the district."

The School reflects the spirit of the Mark Morris Dance Group in its celebration of dance and music. We believe that the study of various dance forms and music is essential to a child's education and development. We offer a diverse range of classes for all ages and strive to be a center of creative activity for children, community residents and professional dancers.
In addition to incorporating music and singing courses, we are now able to offer more classes overall with the opening of our newest ground floor studio. The recently expanded space also includes a lobby reception desk, ground floor lounge area, bathrooms, and locker rooms. Remember, we offer flexible enrollment plans - per semester or in advance for the full year - to fit your family's needs. If you enroll your child for both semesters at the beginning of the fall season, you recieve a special discount. And at the end of each semester, we have open classes which parents are welcome to attend. |
