Greater Astoria Historical Society

The Greater Astoria Historical Society is one of the few true great causes left in the world, in our humble opinion. They are dedicated to preserving the history of Long Island, Queens, and using it to promote New York’s future. Located in the heart of Long Island City, off of historic Broadway, sits the beautiful building which offers visitors a chance to experience firsthand the events that garnered modern day New York. The historical society offers many different events designed to educate and expand its guests’ awareness, including several in-house displays and lectures on everything from the Manhattan Project to Charles Lindbergh. The most unique aspect of the society are the various walk programs which take visitors from the museum and leads them on a journey through some of the best known historical locations in New York City. Starting Spring 2012 through Summer 2012, the society will be offering walking tours of Astoria Park, Wall Street and even an in-depth glance at the mysterious forgotten city on City Island. The Greater Astoria Historical Society is simply a great chance for a first-hand experience of New York and the most knowledgeable historians of Long Island’s past.
