Walking through Brooklyn College's campus, you're stepping into one of the City University of New York's anchor institutions. CUNY itself operates as a sprawling network spanning all five boroughs, bringing together eleven four-year colleges, six community colleges, plus graduate, law, and medical programs under one banner. Across these locations, more than 200,000 students pursue degrees each year. Winter on the Brooklyn campus brings a quiet focus to the grounds—students bundled in coats between classes, the pathways lined with bare trees—creating an intimate backdrop for serious academic work in this major public university system.

Medgar Evers College was founded as a result of collaborative efforts by community leaders, elected officials, the Chancellor, and the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York. The College, named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. The College is committed to the fulfillment of this mandate.
