For the past five decades, the Brooklyn Philharmonic has played a leading role in the presentation of innovative and thematic programming, receiving 21 ASCAP Awards over the last 25 years for “Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music.” Since its 1954 inception, audiences have embraced the Brooklyn Philharmonic’s commitment to the concept of the orchestra as a contemporary performance ensemble, emphasizing important present-day music.

On this beautiful autumn day in Brooklyn, the Atlantic Antic will bring together one million people to Atlantic Avenue to celebrate the longstanding tradition of food, art, music, shopping, festivities, and fun! The Atlantic Antic is a living tribute to the myriad of heritages that coexist in Brooklyn. Spanning four neighborhoods from Hicks Street to Fourth Avenue, the Antic is the largest street festival in New York City! In addition to the Atlantic Avenue Master Plan, the LDC's recent activities have included implementation of streetscape improvements, outreach to property owners to encourage historic storefront preservation, and advocacy on issues of importance to the retail and residential community.

Celebrate Brooklyn! is back in Prospect Park for its 35th summer of providing a wide variety of exciting programming at the Bandshell. Congratulations to the Executive Producer of Celebrate Brooklyn! From its inception, Bargemusic has been committed to attracting local audiences and enhancing the cultural life of New York by offering frequent, year-round performances of chamber music in a fittingly intimate setting—the type of setting in which chamber music is meant to be heard. To make that unique musical experience available to as many people as possible, Bargemusic presents 220 chamber music concerts annually—four days a week, 52 weeks a year—and offers free tickets to a variety of groups every week, plus a monthly free concert open to the community.

In 1984 the City of New York proclaimed the first Sunday in September as the day in which it celebrates Brazilian Independence from Portugal, which took place on September 7th, 1822.

The premier event of New York Road Runners, the ING New York City Marathon is one of the world's great road races, drawing more than 85,000 applicants. Greece celebrates its Independence on March 25th, which is also the day Gabriel announced to Mary that she was with child. In 1821, Greeks vigorously rose up against the oppressive Ottoman Empire which had occupied Greece for nearly four hundred years, embarking on the ultimately successful war of independence. Bishop Germanos of Patras boldly raised the Greek flag at the monastery of Agia Lavras, inciting the Peloponnese to rise against the oppressors.

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival annually assembles some of the finest musicians in the world who reflect Parker’s musical individuality and genius, to promote appreciation for this highly influential and world-renowned artist. The concerts originally scheduled for August 27 and 28 and canceled due to Hurricane Irene will now be consolidated into one and will take place on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.

Bike New York has announced dates and details for the 2013 TD Five Boro Bike Tour, held Sunday, May 5, 2013. The Tour will be returning to a “rush” first-come, first-serve registration system which will open on Tuesday, January 22 at 12:00 p.m. EST.<br/> Held annually the first Sunday in May, the TD Five Boro Bike Tour is America’s largest cycling event with a 40 mile, traffic-free ride through all five boroughs for 32,000 cyclists. The Tour is co-produced by Bike New York, the city’s premiere bicycling organization, and the New York City Department of Transportation, in association with multiple City of New York departments. Proceeds from the event fund Bike New York’s education programs. Bike New York, aka The Five Boro Bike tour, is the largest event of it's kind in the United States. Every year on the first Sunday of May, over 30,000 riders participate in the 42 mile ride around New York City. The closed route takes riders through all five boros of New York City, across five major bridges, and finally across New York Harbor on the Staten Island ferry.<br> The tour runs north up the Avenue of the Americas (6th avenue) past Macy's and past the lions of the New York City Public Library before entering Central Park. After exiting the park the tour crosses into the Bronx for a short 2 mile stretch before getting back to Manhattan and onto the FDR Drive. The River to River Festival takes place each summer during the month of July, in a variety of public venues that canvas all of Downtown New York - from Chambers Street down to the southern tip of Manhattan and across the island from river to river. Starting in 2007, the River to River Festival is proud to be taking steps toward becoming an environmentally friendly festival. From recycling to printing to power generation, the Festival is teaming up with business and civic leaders to develop ways to lessen its impact on the environment and to become a carbon-neutral event.

The New York City Chapter of the National MS Society helps the thousands of New Yorkers impacted by MS to move their lives forward. In 1938 the Westminster Kennel Club was already holding its 62nd annual dog show in New York City. And to mark the occasion, Time magazine chose for its cover a gentleman named John G. Bates, who later that week would step into the ring at Madison Square Garden to select Westminster's Best In Show winner.

Picture New York Harbor transformed into a maritime showcase during those warm late-spring days when the city buzzes with activity. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum serves as the epicenter, though the celebration radiates across all five boroughs with energy to spare. Expect more than a dozen naval vessels—from the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and international fleets—anchored in the harbor, their decks welcoming curious visitors through free daily tours. The week unfolds with parades of ships gliding past the skyline, athletic showdowns like relay races and crew tug-of-wars, live combat demonstrations, and even a spirited cooking competition among ship crews. A solemn Memorial Day ceremony anchors the schedule aboard the Intrepid's flight deck, where veterans and active service members honor fallen heroes with Taps, a wreath placement, a 21-gun salute, a massive unfurled flag, and military aircraft performing the missing man formation overhead. Throughout the seven-day festival, the harbor becomes a living museum where civilians can climb aboard vessels, witness military precision up close, and celebrate the personnel who serve the country. The collaboration between New York City, the Navy, and the Intrepid Museum creates an event that blends spectacle with tribute.

The VII Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY, an official event of New York summer, is back to Manhattan between August 02 and 07, to present the best Brazilian films from 2008/2009. <br> It not only offers great visibility to Brazilian culture, but the Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil-NY has an important role in the development of new business and partnerships, by introducing our audiovisual products to the American market. <br> This year the schedule includes the opening night at Central Park with a show and an outdoor screening, the competitive screenings of feature-films, Reavealing the Brasis series and a lounge with DJ at the Tribeca Cinemas. <br> The Crystal Lens Award will be presented to the best feature-film as chosen by the public.
