DESIRON was founded in 1997 by Frank Carfaro and his brother. The company is a continuation of a rich family tradition originating in Turin, Italy, where their great-grandfather was an ironsmith. The business is continued by Frank Carfaro, President/Founder and head of design. The business is rooted in the classical training of Mid-Century furniture design and production. Clean lines marry with rich materials and the utmost attention to detail.

Located in the heart of Lower Manhattan, the financial capital of the world and New York’s fastest growing residential neighborhood, Claremont Preparatory School is the first independent ongoing school to open in Manhattan in the last 50 years, and the first nonsectarian K-8 school below Canal Street. Currently, we are building a high school addition. As a result of the steady high enrollment over the past decade, SJVA was pressed to develop a strategic campus facility plan that would renovate existing buildings and increase the amount of space in our high school. Specifically, several of the oldest buildings on campus are unable to meet the space and program needs of our faculty and students. In order to maintain programs and to expand other areas of the curriculum, SJVA proposed a $5 million renovation and construction project. This will primarily consolidate the high school's academic space into a central location by enlarging and renovating the existing high school facility. A three-story wing is being built and connected to the current two-story high school. All new classrooms will be provided with "T1" Internet access lines. The project broke ground in December 2004 and is anticipated to be completed by September 2005. Of this $5 million renovation and construction project, $1 million must be raised from a capital campaign. Because St. John Villa is a private Catholic school, we do not receive public funds or money from the Archdiocese for capital projects and therefore, must seek private donations to accomplish this greatly needed project.

The origins of Goju Ryu Karate are shrouded in the mists of time. Many of the techniques found in this powerful style are common to the fighting systems of South China. Emphasis is placed on breath control and conditioning. What is now called GoJu Ryu or the hard/soft system was introduced into Okinawa by Kanryo Higaonna early in this century. His primary student, Chojun Miyagi, developed the style further incorporating three new forms (kata). At that time Goju Ryu did not have an official name. After some thought the name hard/soft was taken from the Bible of Karate called BUBISHI
