The history of Santo Rico dates back to 1995. The name of the dance company is derived from the initial members of the group being half from Santo Domingo (Santo) and half from Puerto Rico (Rico), hence the name "Santo Rico." Santo Rico was initially formed by Wilton Beltre, a Dominican native, who expressed his love for dance by displaying his street style of dancing Mambo/Salsa in local nightclubs in New York City. Prior to forming Santo Rico, Wilton received dancing instruction from the well renowned Eddie Torres. This gave him professionalism, grace and ultimately led to the development of a unique style. During his stint with Mr. Torres Wilton excelled and brought his dancing ability to such a high level that he became one of the most outstanding members of The Eddie Torres Dance Company.

Under the creative vision of choreographer Yurie Yoshida, the company builds opportunities for dancers to explore contemporary movement as a nonprofit venture. Their youth initiative, Little Stars Performing Arts, welcomes young learners through classes at Vanderbilt YMCA, where winter months bring cozy studio sessions that let kids discover their artistic voices. The ensemble's commitment to accessibility and artistic growth continues to shape the local dance community.

Dance Theatre of Harlem School (DTHS) is a cultural, social, and educational institution committed to providing young people of diverse backgrounds with an opportunity to receive training in classical ballet and the allied arts.<br> Throughout their training at DTHS students receive onsite physical therapy, nutrition and wellness workshops made possible through a partnership with The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries. These classes also engage the parents because they are a significant component in any student’s progress. Our commitment to prepare our young people for respective career choice includes a series of diction classes. This comprehensive program is designed to instill discipline, heighten self-esteem and encourage creativity while enabling students to reach their full potential and excel in their chosen endeavors.

It's true! Washington made his headquarters here at the Mansion during the fall of 1776. It was during this period that the General's troops forced a British retreat at the Battle of Harlem Heights. The house was built eleven years before the Revolution, in 1765, by British Colonel Roger Morris and his American wife, Mary Philipse. The breezy hilltop location proved an ideal location for the family's summer home. Known as Mount Morris, this northern Manhattan estate stretched from the Harlem to the Hudson Rivers and covered more than 130 acres. Loyal to the crown, the Morrises were eventually forced to return to England as a result of the American victory.

In Spring 2012, the museum will be continuing its tradition of offering unique exhibitions by featuring “Shift” which is a group of autonomous installations broken down and enhanced for the advanced understanding of African influence. The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) was founded in 1886 through the efforts of two distinguished rabbis, Dr. Sabato Morais and Dr. H. Pereira Mendes, along with a group of prominent lay leaders from Sephardic congregations in Philadelphia and New York. Its mission was to preserve the knowledge and practice of historical Judaism. In 1887, JTS held its first class of ten students in the vestry of the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue, New York City's oldest congregation.
