When Master Malick Coulibaly dit Fall first imagined opening a martial arts studio in Central Harlem, it seemed like a distant goal. Friends and support from BRISC helped turn that vision into something tangible, eventually landing on 125th Street with a fresh, fully equipped training space. For two years, the studio welcomed learners of every age—kids and adults alike—who came to build discipline, respect, focus, confidence, and self-defense skills alongside physical conditioning and coordination. The winter months brought a particular energy to the studio, with students bundled up outside before stepping into the warm, focused atmosphere of the training floor. Though the doors have since closed, the impact of those years of dedicated instruction continues to resonate through the neighborhood.

The Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) was founded in 1886 through the efforts of two distinguished rabbis, Dr. Sabato Morais and Dr. H. Pereira Mendes, along with a group of prominent lay leaders from Sephardic congregations in Philadelphia and New York. Its mission was to preserve the knowledge and practice of historical Judaism. In 1887, JTS held its first class of ten students in the vestry of the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue, New York City's oldest congregation.

Jin is the Japanese pronunciation of the character 仁. It means "benevolence" and finds its root in Confucian ideals. The character Jin consists of two elements. The left side represents a human being and the right side represents the numeral two. Jin is said to depict the way two people should treat one another. This ramen bar is called Jin not only out of an enthusiasm for ramen, but also from a desire to grow a business that has a positive impact on the community. In 2012, after Jin gains a solid foothold in the neighborhood, customers are welcome to advise on how Jin should use its resources to benefit our community and neighbors.

Founded in 1847 as The Free Academy, The City College of New York (CCNY) was one of the great experiments of the young American democracy. At the urging of School Board President Townsend Harris, New York established a school to provide access to higher education for bright young men from working class and immigrant families who could not afford private college. The history of Santo Rico dates back to 1995. The name of the dance company is derived from the initial members of the group being half from Santo Domingo (Santo) and half from Puerto Rico (Rico), hence the name "Santo Rico." Santo Rico was initially formed by Wilton Beltre, a Dominican native, who expressed his love for dance by displaying his street style of dancing Mambo/Salsa in local nightclubs in New York City. Prior to forming Santo Rico, Wilton received dancing instruction from the well renowned Eddie Torres. This gave him professionalism, grace and ultimately led to the development of a unique style. During his stint with Mr. Torres Wilton excelled and brought his dancing ability to such a high level that he became one of the most outstanding members of The Eddie Torres Dance Company.

It's true! Washington made his headquarters here at the Mansion during the fall of 1776. It was during this period that the General's troops forced a British retreat at the Battle of Harlem Heights. The house was built eleven years before the Revolution, in 1765, by British Colonel Roger Morris and his American wife, Mary Philipse. The breezy hilltop location proved an ideal location for the family's summer home. Known as Mount Morris, this northern Manhattan estate stretched from the Harlem to the Hudson Rivers and covered more than 130 acres. Loyal to the crown, the Morrises were eventually forced to return to England as a result of the American victory.
