A native of Harlem, New York, a young Raven "Cake Man" Dennis, III, dreamed of going south to grandma's house and soon his dreams were fulfilled. At the age of four, he wanted to do everything he could to stay outside. Striving to be like grandma, Raven grew flowers and vegetables, and made mud pies and mud cakes, while his grandmother baked and cooked family dinners.

When Harry Rosen and master baker Eigel Peterson joined forces back in 1950, they started something that would captivate palates for generations to come—a cheesecake recipe so distinctive it became the backbone of what this place does best. That same formula has traveled through the Rosen family across three generations, remaining largely unchanged despite the decades that have passed. What's striking is how seriously the operation takes its craft: only three individuals have ever held the role of cheesecake supervisor since day one, and even now, a single person shepherds every stage from blending through final bake. During winter months, there's something especially comforting about stepping inside and catching that aroma—the richness of cream cheese and butter mingling with the warmth of a bustling kitchen.
