From its inception in 1899, Calvary Hospital has been faithfully devoted to providing palliative care to adult patients in the advanced stages of cancer, addressing the symptoms of the disease, not its cure. A voluntary, not-for-profit hospital, operated in connection with the Archdiocese of New York, Calvary continues to embody this tradition of caring through the services and programs offered and through the dedication and concern shown by its staff members.<br> The Hospital will continue to be faithful to this tradition through a twofold commitment. Calvary will strive primarily to expand its programs and services to meet the emerging physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of both patients and families through the provision of acute inpatient, outpatient, home care, hospice, and satellite services. As a result of the steady high enrollment over the past decade, SJVA was pressed to develop a strategic campus facility plan that would renovate existing buildings and increase the amount of space in our high school. Specifically, several of the oldest buildings on campus are unable to meet the space and program needs of our faculty and students. In order to maintain programs and to expand other areas of the curriculum, SJVA proposed a $5 million renovation and construction project. This will primarily consolidate the high school's academic space into a central location by enlarging and renovating the existing high school facility. A three-story wing is being built and connected to the current two-story high school. All new classrooms will be provided with "T1" Internet access lines. The project broke ground in December 2004 and is anticipated to be completed by September 2005. Of this $5 million renovation and construction project, $1 million must be raised from a capital campaign. Because St. John Villa is a private Catholic school, we do not receive public funds or money from the Archdiocese for capital projects and therefore, must seek private donations to accomplish this greatly needed project.

Vladimir Borodin was born in Russia city of Odessa. He started his martial arts carrier at age 7, at age 15 became Junior National Champion in boxing. At age 18 became Soviet Army Champion in karate. In 1980 became 11th USSR National Champion in karate. From 1984 to 1991 trained in kickboxing and Muaythai. Vladimir Borodin trained in Amsterdam, Netherlands, London, England and Bangkok, Changmai, Uttradit, Thailand under supervision of Great Muaythai Masters like Master Pimu, Tom Harinck, Tony Moore. Vladimir is one of the New York's latest instructors for Muaythai fighters. After opening his Gym in Brooklyn, New York he raised many National, International and World Champions in kickboxing and Muaythai divisions.

The Society for Martial Arts Instruction is a non-profit organization located at 4 West 18th Street, NYC, NY 10011. Shihan Alfred trained for years with many of the World Kanreikai karate instructors and students and has maintained a warm and mutually respectful relationship with them. We have been invited to their in-house tournament which features small divisions, reasonable registration fees and many awards for the junior participants. Adults will be welcome this year to do kata and fight semi-knockdown.
