Yoga means “union” in Sanskrit and is a vital way to re-connect with ourselves and create unity of mind, body and spirit. The practice of pranyama (breathing), asanas (postures), savasana (relaxation) & meditation, improves concentration, flexibility, muscle tone, stamina and the immune system.
Yoga reduces stress and increases one’s sense of well-being. Through regualar yoga practice you begin to cultivate a relationship between the mind, body and breath. When you function from your center you are more calm, focused, and balanced approaching life from a grounded perspective.
Pilates can transform the way you look and feel. This series of controlled movements focuses on strengthening the center of the body: the abdomen, lower back, and buttocks, to support the spine and stabilize the body. Pilates can improve posture, flatten the stomach, and create more flexibility. http://lotusyogacentersi.com

Pilates Movement, The, New York State
210 East 68th Street, Ste. 1G - New York City, NY
Joseph Pilates created original pieces of equipment for his exercise system that he called “Contrology.” His studio in New York City had a workshop where he created his designs. Today, there are many different companies that now manufacture Pilates equipment.
The Pilates Movement uses equipment produced by Gratz Industries. Gratz Industries is one of the only manufacturers that produces equipment closest to the original designs. Pilates equipment is different than your typical gym equipment. The equipment has springs, leather straps, wooden and leather handles, and fuzzy foot straps. Through the use of springs, instead of weights, the equipment helps to show you where the muscles are and how they work within the movement. Performing a series of controlled movements that work against the resistance of springs is unlike using your average machine in a gym.
