Owner Avtar Walia created a sophisticated, warm and harmonious setting for Tamarind in New York City's bustling Flatiron section to reflect the diverse foods of India's regions when he opened his trend-setting restaurant in January 2001. He selected the name Tamarind for his first solo restaurant venture to showcase the versatility of a beloved ingredient, one that is familiar and used extensively in the preparation of the subcontinent's cuisine.
Instead of concentrating on one of India's many cuisines, Mr. Walia offered a wide range of dishes featuring unique and seductive spices and unusual ingredients prepared by a team of expert, dedicated chefs. Tamarind's cool and elegant space with its vibrant modern look coupled with subtle traditional elements, was quickly embraced by New Yorkers and visitors from around the United States and countries abroad. It occupies 4,500 square feet in a former Woolworth company warehouse, with seating for 130 people.

The Marrow is a contemporary German and Italian restaurant located amidst picturesque brownstones and cobblestone streets in the West Village. Run by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo, owners of nearby Perilla and Kin Shop, the restaurant aims to be a neighborhood restaurant as much as a destination. The food is inspired by the ethnic heritage of Harold’s parents, reflecting his father’s German ancestry and mother’s Italian lineage. To complement The Marrow’s menu, Alicia Nosenzo and Beverage Director Jill Roberts, have created an extensive, yet approachable beverage program that includes nearly 400 wines, with a strong emphasis on Italian, German, and Austrian producers. Specialty cocktails and a curated selection of craft beers will also be available. Ramen Yebisu offers Sapporo-style ramen created by chef Akira Hiratsuka from Hokkaido Japan. Chef Hiratsuka has crafted the menu at Yebisu from years of experience as a head chef at the renowned Yakitori Totto where he helped pioneer truly authentic Japanese Yakitori in New York City. Growing up in Sapporo on Japan’s Northernmost island of Hokkaido, chef Hiratsuka learned from a tradition of cuisine that uses the finest seafood from the Northern Japan Sea, fresh locally grown vegetables, and a thicker style noodle typical of Sapporo ramen.
Yebisu’s Ramen, also known as “Nama-Men” is made with a special home-made, extremely fresh unheated moist noodle. Yebisu ferments noodles for 48 hours and serve the noodle within a day giving the noodles a superior taste and texture.

Born in St Angelo dei Lombardi in the Italian province of Avellino, Chef Sena came to attending New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, Stefano studied culinary arts as an apprentice at the Alps Restaurant here on Staten Island under owner/chef Gerard Campitiello. Upon graduation from high school Stefano embarked on a 12-month regional Italian cuisine apprenticeship in Genoa, Italy after which he continued his education at the highly esteemed Culinary Institute of America (CIA).
