O ano de 1965 marca o início da história de Lojas Renner como uma empresa verdadeiramente independente. Até então, Lojas Renner existia como parte do grupo A. J. Renner, indústria fabril instalada no bairro Navegantes, em Porto Alegre (RS). Foi como parte integrante do grupo A. J. Renner que Lojas Renner inaugurou em 1922, na capital gaúcha, seu primeiro ponto-de-venda para a comercialização de artigos têxteis. Em junho de 2005, ocasião em que a Companhia já atuava com 64 pontos-de-venda, a JC Penney, em conjunto com os administradores da Lojas Renner, optou pela venda do controle da Companhia através de oferta pública de ações na Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo. A Lojas Renner entrou então no Novo Mercado da Bovespa como a primeira Companhia no país a ter seu capital pulverizado e aproximadamente 100% das ações em circulação.No ano em seguinte, em 2006, com a bem sucedida operação de pulverização das ações na Bolsa, o plano de expansão é intensificado e Lojas Renner inicia sua atuação no Nordeste, com a abertura de lojas nos estados de Pernambuco, Ceará e Bahia. Ao longo do ano são inauguradas 15 novas unidades e a Companhia chega ao número de 81 lojas.O ano de 2007 marca a continuidade do plano de expansão e a chegada da Companhia na região Norte, com a abertura de uma loja no estado do Amazonas. Também é intensificada a presença no Nordeste com a entrada da Companhia nos estados de Sergipe e Paraíba e o fortalecimento da atuação na Bahia. Durante o ano foram abertas 14 novas operações e a rede chega ao final de dezembro com 95 lojas. Hoje a Lojas Renner é a segunda maior rede de lojas de departamentos de vestuário no Brasil e das 111 lojas existentes, 104 estão instaladas em Shopping Centers e 7 em pontos centrais de cidades, nas regiões Sul, Sudeste, Centro-Oeste, Norte e Nordeste do país.
