We first opened our doors in 1962 as a family business. A husband and wife team named Gordon and Carole Segal, and one (yes, count them... one) eager sales associate who was enthusiastic about their vision. One can only imagine the office parties they had. Table for three, please. Fast forward forty years. And did it ever go fast. Today's Crate and Barrel family has grown to over 115 stores and over 6000 associates nationwide. And, we might add, still growing. While we are proud of our growth and achievements over the years, we feel it is what we fondly call the "3 P's" that has kept our vision and product as fresh and invigorated as the day we opened.

Patio.com’s grass-root origins predate the dot-com era. The company (now owned by three brothers raised in Westport, CT) was founded by David Ross 25 years ago. As a high school student, David started a pool service company with $50. Business grew quickly, and his brother, Philip, joined him as they became the first Connecticut pool service company to open a retail location. Shortly thereafter, a second location was opened in Greenwich, CT on a site of over an acre ... providing an opportunity to expand the scope of their retail operations to include outdoor furniture.

Donghia is a privately owned furniture and textile company, founded by Angelo Donghia who, in his brief lifetime, established the high standards which have become the company’s hallmark. Donghia’s uniquely focused look is achieved through classically inspired yet distinctly modern product. The Modern Classics museum quality collection was developed for PALAZZETTI® 26 years ago to the original specifications and are still manufactured in Italy to the same exact standards. Since the start of the company, Charles H. Beckley Inc. has always prided themselves on using the finest hand picked materials on all our products ranging from the hardwoods used in making a boxspring to the blended cotton felt we have sent to us from down south. In addition to that, and most importantly, we believe in the quality of our workmanship. Each piece of custom bedding is all hand made by our skilled craftsman. Throughout the years, even with the temptation of commercial machinery, we managed to keep our manufacturing very personal as to each client's needs. Each mattress is hand filled and hand stitched, each boxspring is hand tied and individually upholstered and so on. That's why we here at Charles H. For the past century, the Bielecky Family has set the standard of handcrafting the finest quality Rattan, Cane and Wicker furniture in America. In 1903, Andrew and Conrad Bielecky, emigrated from Poland to New York and set up a small shop, weaving wicker chairs. In the 1920's Bielecky Brothers were one of the first to align themselves with the emerging interior design profession, creating an eclectic variety of custom made furniture fir individual decorators. During the 1930's and 1940's when wicker was relegated to the back porch, the company survived by maintaining quality in production and finishing. At the "American Home Decorating Show" in 1951. the Bielecky exhibit attracted numerous designers including Billy Baldwin who created an elegant collection of "wrapped cane" furniture for the company. In 1979, Angelo Designs, -functionally as well as physically. At the time, Mr. Donghia found he could adapt and restyle these designs for Ralph Lauren's new home, creating a new line of Rattan furniture for Bielecky.

Since 1976, this custom furniture studio has been transforming interiors across Manhattan with bespoke cabinetry in endless finishes, colors, and stains. In 1953, two sisters from Cincinnati, Ohio came to New York City seeking adventure. Annie and Martha came up with the idea of making furniture out of various "parts". With flush doors and different sized legs they built dining tables, coffee tables, beds, sofas, room dividers, shelving, benches, and more. <br> These new creations were put on display in their first store, located in a brownstone on 51st Street and 3rd Avenue, which they named "Furniture in Parts". Annie and Martha lived just above their store and put all their energies into their new business. <br> Their hard work paid off when an editor from 'Look' magazine took notice of their novel approach to furniture and design. He wrote an article, accompanied with photos, all about their unique concept. It was in this 'Look' magazine article that their store "Furniture in Parts" was appropriately nick-named "Door Store". The article drew so much attention that several more newspaper and magazine stories followed.
