Named after John Marshall, the great Chief Justice of the United States, Marshall Academy was established in 1837. Marshall became a university in 1961 and has since grown tremendously, particularly in the 1990's which saw the construction of the state-of-the-art Drinko Library, Jomie Jazz Center and the addition of the Graduate College.

Faulkner University has been a part of Montgomery, Alabama since its beginnings on Ann Street as Montgomery Bible School in 1942. Joe Greer served as the first chairman of the Board of Trustees. Drs. Rex Turner and Leonard Johnson served as the co-founding presidents of the school.

The College of Staten Island is a four-year, senior college of The City University of New York that offers exceptional opportunities to all of its students. Programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional studies lead to bachelor's and associate's degrees. The master's degree is awarded in 16 professional and liberal arts and sciences fields of study. One of the first co-educational colleges chartered by the University of the State of New York and the oldest private liberal arts university on Long Island, was founded in 1896 through the efforts of Dr. Charles H. Levermore and Timothy Woodruff. Dr. Levermore became its first president. Mr. Woodruff, a former Lieutenant Governor of New York State, served as president of the Board of Trustees.

Founded in 1961, The Graduate Center is the doctorate-granting institution of The City University of New York (CUNY). In this nationally unique consortium of 1700 faculty members, a core faculty of 125 Graduate Center appointments is supplemented by over 1500 additional faculty members drawn from throughout CUNY's ten senior colleges and New York City's leading cultural and scientific institutions. With 4000 doctoral students, they pursue a shared enterprise of expanding the boundaries of knowledge in over 30 doctoral programs and 6 master's programs in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Augmenting this enterprise are 28 research centers and institutes focused on areas of compelling social, civic, cultural, and scientific concerns.

Furman University is the oldest, largest and most selective private institution in South Carolina. Founded in 1826, Furman moved three times in its early years before being charted as Furman University and settling in Greenville in 1850. The University of Toronto was founded as King’s College in 1827 and has evolved into a large and complex institution. It now occupies three campuses: Scarborough and Erindale and the historic St. George campus. It has federated with three smaller universities which are on the St. George campus, and is affiliated with several colleges and institutes. There are ten fully affiliated teaching hospitals in metropolitan Toronto. Faculty conduct research in many places in Canada and around the world.
