The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (also "Macy's Day Parade" in informal contexts, and originally the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" ) is an annual parade presented by Macy's Department Store. The three-hour event is held in New York City starting at 9:00 a.m. EST on Thanksgiving Day.
Large animal-shaped balloons replaced the live animals in 1927 when the Felix the Cat balloon debuted. Felix was filled with air, but by the next year, helium was used to fill the expanding cast of balloons.
The Parade was suspended from 1942-1944 because of World War II. The rubber and helium were needed for the war effort. The Parade resumed in 1945 using the route that it still runs today. The parade gained serious fame after being prominently featured in the 1947 film, Miracle on 34th Street. Source

Participants from 11 states and Canada attend and compete in blackpowder shooting competitions and tomahawk and knife throwing competitions. Many of the exciting Fleet Week activities that have become synonymous with the event are staged at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, while others are scheduled throughout the five boroughs of New York. In partnership with New York City, the United States Navy and the Intrepid Museum, over a dozen Navy and Coast Guard ships as well as ships from all over the world visit New York Harbor each Fleet Week. The visiting Fleet Week vessels are open for free public tours daily. There are also military demonstrations, athletic competitions and many other exciting activities over the course of the seven-day celebration. One highlight of the week’s activities is the Memorial Day ceremony held on the flight deck of the Intrepid. Veterans and active military personnel from all five branches of the armed services join in the museum’s tribute to the men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country. The ceremony includes the playing of Taps, a ceremonial wreath laying, 21-gun salute, the unfurling of a 100 foot American flag and a fly-over of military aircraft in the missing man formation. Some other Fleet Week event favorites include the Parade of Ships, stem-to-stern relay race and tug-of-war crew competitions, live demonstrations of military skills, and the Best Chow Competition. The premier event of New York Road Runners, the ING New York City Marathon is one of the world's great road races, drawing more than 85,000 applicants. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $500,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and 260 million worldwide television viewers. As any one of the 635,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime.

Así, este encuentro anual ha servido para dar a conocer jóvenes valores e impulsar sus carreras, al mismo tiempo que ha reconocido y revisado la obra de los ya consagrados.

September/October - This year we introduce a new event program at the VIFF. As part of our hospitality and networking initiatives, the festival is hosting a regular series of receptions at our spacious new Vancouver International Film Centre.

Septermber/October. Just a couple hours drive from the glorious Rocky Mountains, Edmonton is known for its big sky and endless sunshine. Located east of Vancouver and west of Toronto, Edmonton is in the heart of the Canadian Prairies and our city is often called upon to be the set for independent and Hollywood movies. With a population of one million people, Edmonton is a city that loves movies. It's reported that the number one, per capita, movie rental city in Canada is Edmonton. Need we say more? Oh yes, and we have the world's largest shopping mall -- West Edmonton Mall.

The Calgary International Film Festival Society was established in 1999 as a non-profit organization providing an annual world-class cinema event for the citizens of Calgary and area. We aim to showcase the best of national and international film to Calgary audiences. The Festival has brought numerous Canadian film premieres and world caliber filmmakers to our city. Your support is needed to continue bringing quality films to Calgary.
