With over 37 years of history and commitment to the City of Edmonton and south Edmonton Communities, Southgate Centre opened in 1970 with 65 stores and services. It was anchored by The Bay, Woodwards and Woodwards Food Floor. Southgate Centre was the largest shopping centre in Edmonton at the time.
Since then, Southgate Centre has evolved within the retail industry in Edmonton and has gone through numerous changes. It was expanded in 1982 doubling the size of the property, including the addition of roof top and decked parking and expanding the store count to over 130. Place d'Orléans is a large shopping mall in the eastern end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, in the community of Orléans. The property is about 756,300 square feet (70,262 m²). It currently holds three large department stores (SportChek, Zellers and The Bay) and about 175 small shops, including a food court. Other prominent shops included the Market Fresh grocery store (The company pulled out of Ontario, due to declining profits, on December 30, 2005, now Boathouse and Goodlife Fitness fill the vacated space), and, once the focus of the mall itself, the recently moved Wal-Mart.
