Founded in 1979, is more than a dance school. It is an internationally recognized community of artists committed to the cultivation of individuality and talent, and to the joy and toil of dance. It is home to some of the finest and most passionate dance teachers in the world. It is a celebrated space set amid t he Beaux Arts grandeur of Manhattan's Upper West Side, blending old-world ambience with modern facilities — male and female dressing rooms and showers, a theater, a café, and a dance wear boutique. Above all, the ten fully-mirrored, sprung-floored, climate-controlled studios are filled with natural light-and limitless inspiration. <br> On any given day, casual enthusiasts and aspiring professionals may take class alongside seasoned veterans from Broadway, the opera, and the major dance companies, including New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Paris Opera, Kirov and Royal Ballets, Boston Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance, Complexions and Martha Graham. The political question is something like, "What is one to do with one's power?" How Trinity goes about the business of a liberal education is our way of answering that question.

The School for Children is an independent demonstration school for Bank Street College and a working model of the College's approach to learning and teaching. Education at the School is experience-based, interdisciplinary, and collaborative. The emphasis is on educating the whole child -- the entire emotional, social, physical, and intellectual being -- while at the same time, the child's integrity as learner, teacher, and classmate is valued and reinforced. The School is divided into Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools in order to accommodate the differing developmental stages and curriculum needs of children.

The Japan Society is a hotbed of activity and display with the central message of establishing a comprehensive link between Japan and the United States. With a constantly rotating selection of exhibits and displays, the Japan Society is an always fresh experience that encourages multiple visits in order to fully grasp the underlining message. While there, visitors are also able to engage in a variety of other ways, including visits to the Japan Society library, special guest lectures from a variety of Japanese-American artists and influential people, hands-on workshops and special seminars dedicated to shaping the global leaders of tomorrow. Spring 2012 brings a look at the political application of the museum as they delve into Japan’s role with the United Nations, and the healing and rebuilding process facing Japan after their multiple catastrophes over the last several years. Summer 2012 continues with a concert by Japan superstar JERO with benefits from sales going towards the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. The Japan Society is an ever-growing hub of information and offers some of the most professional and informational materials in all of Japanese and New York culture.

The Society is dedicated to presenting exhibitions and public programs, and fostering research that reveal the dynamism of history and its influence on the world of today. Founded in 1804, its holdings cover four centuries of American history, and include one of the world’s greatest collections of historical artifacts, American art and other materials documenting the history of the United States as seen through the prism of New York City and State. <br> Forty thousand of the Society’s most treasured pieces are on permanent display in the Henry Luce III Center for the Study of American Culture, and a self-guided audio tour brings these artifacts to life with anecdotes and stories. Our collections provide the foundation for exploration of the nation’s richly layered past and support the Society’s mission to provide a forum for debate and examination of issues surrounding the making and meaning of history.

A store called the Banana Republic was opened in San Francisco in 1978 by Mel and Patricia Ziegler. Both the Zieglers worked for the San Franciso Chronicle, Mel was a writer and Patricia an illustrator. <br> Banana Republic specialized in casual Safari styles and Army Surplus clothing. Many of the utilitarian items had sturdy zips and snaps and were double-stitched and reinforced. The store sold desert army hats, sheepskin vests, shorts and other items of travel clothing to armchair travelers. Lorraine Massey, was born in Leichester, England, and started cutting hair in a local salon at age 13. "I went to the salon every day after school, and as often as I could on weekends. I couldn't get enough." At 16, she went to study with Martin Smith, the artistic director of Remi-Toni & Guy, and at 19, took her scissors and went traveling - to Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines - where she lived in a hut and cut hair on the beach.

The legendary Apollo Theater is so much more than an historic landmark - it is a source of pride and a symbol of the brilliance of American artistic achievement. From 1934 when the Apollo first introduced its world-famous Amateur Night which launched the careers of legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Michael Jackson, D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill, the Apollo has maintained its position as the nation's most popular arena for emerging and established black and Latino performers.

The concerts originally scheduled for August 27 and 28 and canceled due to Hurricane Irene will now be consolidated into one and will take place on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
