An establishment used for selling and drinking alcoholic beverages during the period of the United States history known as Prohibition (1920-1933) when selling or buying alcohol was illegal. The end of Prohibition was marked by President FDR famously announcing, “WHAT AMERICA NEEDS NOW IS A DRINK.”
