The Biltmore Theatre is a legitimate Broadway theatre located at 261 West 47th Street in midtown-Manhattan.<br> In 1987, a fire struck the Biltmore. The blaze, which was later determined to be an act of arson, destroyed the interior. After the fire, the building would sit vacant for fourteen years, suffering more structural damage from water and vandals. The theatre's ownership changed hands several times between 1987 and 2001, but most plans proposed for its future use - such as a showcase for "Best of Broadway" revues - were rejected since its New York City landmark designation required it to operate only as a legitimate Broadway house if renovated. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org" target="new">Source</a>

We first opened our doors in 1962 as a family business. A husband and wife team named Gordon and Carole Segal, and one (yes, count them... one) eager sales associate who was enthusiastic about their vision. One can only imagine the office parties they had. Table for three, please. Fast forward forty years. And did it ever go fast. Today's Crate and Barrel family has grown to over 115 stores and over 6000 associates nationwide. And, we might add, still growing. ALL ABOUT JAZZ - November 2002 Issue - Like most Americans born in the 1960s, Iridium Jazz Club owner Ron Sturm grew up with rock 'n' roll, not jazz. "I got more involved with jazz when I was in college at Boston University," Sturm says. "Boston was really hot then - there were a lot of jazz clubs and good things happening, and I caught a lot of shows." When the Sturm family decided to open a club, Ron is the one who suggested jazz. The name Iridium was chosen for several reasons. Iridium is a silvery white metal, but the word derives from iris, so it also refers to a rainbow. The Sturms liked the sound of the word, and better yet someone told them that saxophones were once lined with iridium.

Fast forward to the 21st Century. Nick D'Agostino, Jr. is Chief Executive Officer and his two sons, Nicholas III and David, operate the 23-store D'Agostino chain. The stores are small, but they stock a wide variety of high quality groceries, produce, meat, poultry, and seafood as well as deli items. The chain may be small by food industry standards, but D'Agostino enjoys a big reputation both in the city and nationally. Movies and television shows shot on location in New York frequently use D'Agostino stores or "DAG BAGS" to help impart a sense of New York City realism. Just a few blocks north on East 87th Street, the Field House opens up space for a full slate of athletic pursuits—basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, squash, track, field hockey, and lacrosse all find homes here, with the facility providing a welcome refuge for winter sports and indoor training when the season turns cold.

More than 10,000 requests roll in yearly, which means the team constantly works to get the right language-speaking volunteer to the right traveler in the right spot at the right moment. N-6<br> Initially opening in 1971 as a one-room schoolhouse in the heart of Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, The Studio School has evolved as an independent, not-for-profit day school whose continuing challenge is to educate the minds and bodies of our students while allowing them to maintain their own spirit and character. Today we serve children ages two through fourteen and, while we are no longer a one-room schoolhouse, we still adhere to the principles upon which Studio was founded. Our vision, to develop an educational program that addresses the interplay of the intellect and the emotions, emphasizes respect for the process of learning in each child.

Tucked into a historic Bowery building from the late 1920s, this venue at 6 Delancey Street has cycled through several lives since its construction just before the market crash. After sitting dormant through the war years, it eventually transitioned into upscale retail before the neighborhood's fortunes shifted and the space fell into different hands. These days, especially on cold winter evenings when you're looking for live music and warmth, the energy inside contrasts sharply with the quiet streets outside. The venue carries echoes of its layered past while hosting performances that draw crowds year-round, transforming this corner of the city's oldest neighborhood into a gathering spot.

As much as in literacy or math, we design a program to reflect students’ developmental orientation. We meet them where they are, tapping into their interests and curiosity within the framework of their realm of understanding. For example, we know that the younger child learns through concrete, personal experience – a trip or interview is a springboard for extended learning as your child reflects, questions, draws and writes about an exciting experience, turning it into new and deeper understanding. As the student matures and her worldview broadens, she extracts more and more information from books and symbolic communication, linking this to direct, interactive experience. Eventually, around Third Grade, students are ready to leave what we call the ”here and now” and enter the world of “long ago and far away;” to study those things that cannot be visited directly, tasted or touched. Thanks to the experiential foundation of their earlier years, eight and nine year olds are prepared to appreciate the flow and evolution of history and to conceptualize a timeline leading from then to now.

When Master Malick Coulibaly dit Fall first imagined opening a martial arts studio in Central Harlem, it seemed like a distant goal. Friends and support from BRISC helped turn that vision into something tangible, eventually landing on 125th Street with a fresh, fully equipped training space. For two years, the studio welcomed learners of every age—kids and adults alike—who came to build discipline, respect, focus, confidence, and self-defense skills alongside physical conditioning and coordination. The winter months brought a particular energy to the studio, with students bundled up outside before stepping into the warm, focused atmosphere of the training floor. Though the doors have since closed, the impact of those years of dedicated instruction continues to resonate through the neighborhood.

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival annually assembles some of the finest musicians in the world who reflect Parker’s musical individuality and genius, to promote appreciation for this highly influential and world-renowned artist. The concerts originally scheduled for August 27 and 28 and canceled due to Hurricane Irene will now be consolidated into one and will take place on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
