Not your typical "ballroom" studio, Martinez Dance Studio mixes technique with culture to create a vibrant atmosphere for learning authentic Latin dancing. Eddie Zawacki began his early training at Balanchine’s School of American Ballet. He has created an entire body of choreographic work on his own company the Zawacki Ballet.
Recently completing a year with ballet icon David Howard at 211 West 61st Street, NYC, they together taught and hosted several dance concerts with guests from NYCB, ABT, and Joffrey Ballet. Ed was a guest teacher at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in the same facility.
Opening his own dance loft on 23rd Street in Chelsea, NYC served as a teaching facility and performing space for workshops, and choreographic projects.
Returning from London, Paris, and LA made him one of the most sought after men in the business, and has put him on the map as one of the most gifted teachers, and choreographers of his generation.

Jorday Rivera is a remarkable woman who leads a double life. By day, Jorday is an honorary Pre Med. Graduate student at St. John's University. The head intern for the chief of cardiology at The Parkway Hospital for the past four years. Within the next six months Jorday will attend either NYU or Columbia Medical School. She will study Neonatal and later become a heart surgeon and open her own practice.

Capoeira Angola, an ancient martial art of African origin, is one of the many cultural weapons used to break the chains of enslavement in Brazil. Played close to the ground, Capoeira Angola combines fluid, dance-like movements with kicks, head butts, tripping sweeps and the appearance of playfulness or vulnerability. Music is played on traditional instruments to accompany the players, to teach the rhythmic heart of the art, and also to mask its power. In the eyes of the enslavers it appeared to be a joking and playful acrobatic dance, but eventually its power was realized and Capoeira was outlawed. Death was the penalty paid by those caught playing Capoeira during the slavery era. For almost 400 years Capoeira Angola was taught and practiced in secret, and only in the 1930's did this African martial art become legal to teach and practice.

Rebecca Kelly creates abstract and narrative ballets which convey her humanistic outlook. The works features Kelly's vibrant expression, fusing classical dance with modern forms resulting in an arresting lyrical yet earthy quality. Kelly brings out strong individuality with a culturally diverse group of dancers. Themes range from topical issues about the environment and astute social commentary, to poetical works involving the sheer energy and beauty of the highly skilled dancer and the complex use of the body. Classical line and touching performance, coupled with intense musicality and energy distinguish each of Kelly's works. No matter what topic, Kelly reveals provocative and compelling images, with a directness of expression which easily engages the audience. The Company spends a portion of its summer in a second home in the Adirondack Mountains, where as artists-in-residence in Lake Placid, NY since 1987, it has developed many new ballets.

The Frank Ohman School of Ballet was founded in 1979 by Frank Ohman, former soloist at New York City Ballet (NYCB) and is one of the few remaining direct links to the teaching of George Balanchine. Currently located in Commack, the school serves as a training ground for promising young dancers and offers aspiring students the opportunity to learn classical ballet in the tradition of George Balanchine. “Gotta Dance” Studio opened its doors on September 15, 2001. Owner, Miss Terri as she is known by her students, starting dancing at the age of 5 and always dreamed, that one day, she would open her own studio. She continued taking dance classes and was also a member of a local community theatre group for many years. There she was able to learn and develop not only her love of dance, but also her love for music, singing and acting. The performing arts has always been a big part of Miss Terri's life.
Mr. Ron & Miss Terri decided the time had come for them to fulfill the life long “Dream” and together they started searching for the perfect place. Their hope was to find a small studio where students could come and learn to love dance & music while having fun in a friendly and safe environment. Today, they are very proud of their accomplishments and are extremely grateful to all the wonderful families who have touched their lives. Their goal is to continue with this very gratifying work and in the process make “Gotta Dance” Studio, for all the families who are a part of it, a place that will be remembered and remain forever close to their hearts!

The studios are large, modern, fully mirrored with sprung floors specifically designed for dance. It is here that our students are trained in the disciplines of Ballet, Broadway Theater Dance, Musical Theater and Tap. Registration is on all levels, beginner to professional, children (3 years old) to adults. There is live musical accompaniment for most classes. Our Summer Workshop is an outgrowth of this school.
The American Theater Dance began in 1982 as The American Dancemachine, a professional company and school, whose mission it was to reconstruct, perform and preserve the great dance numbers from Broadway shows. When founder/director Lee Theodore died in 1986, we became The American Theater Dance Workshop.
