Located in New York City’s Greenwich Village, was founded in 1953 by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino to develop and train professional dancers. The School continues to strive for the founders’ vision of dance based on rigorous classical training that is imbued with a sense of movement, clarity and exuberant energy.<br> In more than fifty years of existence, the Joffrey Ballet School has remained on the forefront of American dance education. Graduates of the School have gone on to dance for major classical ballet companies, as well as for numerous modern and contemporary companies, both in the United States and abroad.

The primary building stretches twelve stories along East 83rd Street with views toward the East River, creating an urban campus atmosphere that feels particularly intimate during winter months when the river takes on a quieter character. Just a few blocks north on East 87th Street, the Field House opens up space for a full slate of athletic pursuits—basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, squash, track, field hockey, and lacrosse all find homes here, with the facility providing a welcome refuge for winter sports and indoor training when the season turns cold.

When Master Malick Coulibaly dit Fall first imagined opening a martial arts studio in Central Harlem, it seemed like a distant goal. Friends and support from BRISC helped turn that vision into something tangible, eventually landing on 125th Street with a fresh, fully equipped training space. For two years, the studio welcomed learners of every age—kids and adults alike—who came to build discipline, respect, focus, confidence, and self-defense skills alongside physical conditioning and coordination. The winter months brought a particular energy to the studio, with students bundled up outside before stepping into the warm, focused atmosphere of the training floor. Though the doors have since closed, the impact of those years of dedicated instruction continues to resonate through the neighborhood.

The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival annually assembles some of the finest musicians in the world who reflect Parker’s musical individuality and genius, to promote appreciation for this highly influential and world-renowned artist. The concerts originally scheduled for August 27 and 28 and canceled due to Hurricane Irene will now be consolidated into one and will take place on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.
