Em 1993 foi fundado o Araucária Mar Hotel, filiado a rede de Hotéis Araucária.
Em janeiro de 1997 houve a separação da rede de Hotéis Araucária. Passaram então, os novos proprietários com seus colaboradores a pesquisar a história da cidade de Paranaguá em busca de um nome pertinente ao hotel. Chegou-se então ao nome CAMBOA, por consenso.
