K-12. In Chapin’s rigorous liberal arts curriculum, students are instructed and supported by a dedicated, distinguished faculty. The Reece School is one of the oldest non-profit special education elementary schools in New York City. It was founded in 1948 by Ellen S. Reece and is housed in the home she once owned on East 93rd Street. Today the Reece School presents a highly academic elementary special education for nearly 75 students, ages 5 to 13, who present with learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, and emotional disabilities. The school’s program is full day and is offered within a nurturing environment that is designed to provide high levels of academic and emotional support. Children study a modified, sequential, elementary curriculum for grades K-6 and learn various strategies for overcoming their individual academic difficulties. They develop the social skills to function successfully in the classroom, the school, and the larger community.

Brearley’s enrollment (K-12, divided into Lower School, Middle School and Upper School) today consists of about 670 students from throughout the New York metropolitan area who represent a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and points of view. A CNEC - Campanha Nacional de Escolas da Comunidade, conta atualmente com 20 Faculdades e 264 Escolas em 21 Estados do Brasil e a mantenedora do Colégio Cenecista Domiciano Vieira, que foi implantado há quase meio século. Sem fins lucrativos e com o objetivo de levar Educação a todas as camadas sociais, principalmente àquelas mais pobres, fundou-se a nova escola que viria suprir o grande déficit relacionado à Educação e que se transformaria, já naquela época, no grande pólo de ensino e inclusão social que mudaria o rumo da vida de muitas pessoas desta e de outras regiões. A filantropia inicial que visava a uma escola de caráter inclusivo, não discriminatório e empreendedor permitiu que se sentassem nos mesmos bancos da sala de aula, alunos de todas as classes sociais da região e adjacências. Isso era uma inovação para a época em que só uma pequena elite tinha acesso ao ensino que não fosse público. A conseqüência dessa saudável atitude é que hoje nossos antigos alunos são os médicos, engenheiros, deputados, vereadores, técnicos em contabilidade, técnicos em patologia clínica, técnicos em química industrial, professores, grandes e pequenos empresários que atuam no Barreiro e no Brasil.
