Baruch College is part of a tradition that dates back more than 150 years to the founding, in 1847, of the Free Academy, the very first free public institution of higher education in the nation. (Baruch’s landmark building at 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue occupies the site of the Free Academy). Established in 1919 as City College’s School of Business and Civic Administration, the school was renamed in 1953 in honor of Bernard M. Baruch—statesman, financier, and devoted alumnus. As Faculdades Integradas Maria Thereza (FAMATh), que contam hoje com mais de trinta anos de serviços prestados à Educação de nosso país, se caracteriza por ter sido a primeira instituição privada no município de Niterói. A Instituição tem sido pioneira na criação de cursos relevantes e de imensa procura, como Psicologia, Ciências Biológicas, Biologia Marinha, Educação Física e Pedagogia, que hoje culminam com a oferta de vários cursos de pós-graduação e o projeto de sua transformação em Centro Universitário.

Em 6 de setembro de 1951, o Governador do Estado do Espírito Santo, Jones dos Santos Neves assinou a lei criando a Escola Politécnica do Espírito Santo, coroando os esforços desenvolvidos pela Sociedade Espírito Santense de Engenheiros, fundada em 1950. A Escola instalou-se nas dependências do Colégio Estadual do Espírito Santo, no prédio da Antiga FAFI, com o curso de Engenharia Civil. Seu primeiro Diretor foi o Prof. Dido Fontes de Faria Brito. Em 1953, passou a funcionar em prédio próprio na Av. Maruípe, permanecendo neste local, com sucessivas ampliações, até 1975, quando mudou para a sua atual sede no Campus Universitário "Alaor Queiroz de Araújo".

Ao completar 100 anos, a SBI pode dar o balanço do que é a sua vida como instituição, no que marca a sua diferença, a sua "idéia de obra" ou a sua imagem, de um país de memória fraca e de imaginário estereotipado. Até os anos 20, a SBI - mantenedora da Universidade Candido Mendes - se identificava, na prática com o desenvolvimento da Academia de Comércio do Rio de Janeiro, ou, na corruptela em que chegava ao povo a "Esculimia do Candido Mendes ". Nasciam as duas entidades em 1902, ambas pioneiras. Uma, a desdobrar pela primeira vez no país e para as classes médias em começo de expansão, a idéia de um curso profissional. Fugia-se ao padrão das clássicas carreiras liberais do amadorismo das atividades clássicas de balcão de mercancias no Rio de Janeiro ainda mofino, às vésperas da grande explosão urbana do Prefeito Passos.

Localizada no coração financeiro e comercial da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, a Universidade Gama Filho, Unidade Centro-Candelária, dispõe de mais de cinco mil metros quadrados, onde o estudante pode desfrutar de uma infra-estrutura adequada e favorável ao seu melhor desenvolvimento. A Unidade Candelária é divida em salas de orientação pedagógica, biblioteca, secretaria, espaços equipados para videoconferências, laboratórios de informática, auditório com 130 lugares e um anexo para recepções e eventos.

A idéia da criação da Universidade de Fortaleza, concebida pelo industrial Edson Queiroz, empresário já estabelecido no ramo da agropecuária, gás, indústria metalúrgica e telecomunicações, deu-se em um contexto de expectativas e apreensão nos idos de 1970, quando o Brasil enfrentava uma das maiores crises no ensino superior devido à reduzida oferta de vagas.
No Ceará o quadro não era diferente: o número de vagas nos poucos cursos universitários era ofertado apenas por duas instituições públicas. A evasão de muitos jovens para outros estados, em busca da complementação de seus estudos, era inevitável, pois nos grandes centros urbanos outras instituições de ensino superior acenavam com acolhida às suas aspirações.

Parte importante da história da educação no Brasil, a Estácio contribui para o crescimento dos indivíduos e para o desenvolvimento sustentável do país, formando cidadãos e disseminando conhecimento. A meta do CESV é a autonomia intelectual do aluno. Ao longo do curso, ele é motivado para definir problemas, examinar várias alternativas para tratá-los, integrar diferentes áreas do conhecimento, fazer leituras, buscar dados, pesquisar, entrevistar, estruturar o seu raciocínio, chegar a conclusões e apresentá-las em público, de forma correta. A Iniciação Científica (IC) tem sido a valorização do trabalho em grupos de pesquisa, com a participação de vários professores e alunos. Nessa atividade, dá-se ênfase a um trabalho de pesquisa que colabore não só no processo de transformação da Faculdade e da sociedade, mas também na integração entre pesquisa e ensino na graduação e na pós-graduação. Com esse objetivo, o CESV já organizou, em 2003, a sua "1ª Jornada de Iniciação Científica" na qual participaram alunos bolsistas do Cesv, alunos da pós-graduação, professores, pesquisadores do Cesv e convidados.

Missão: Produzir e transmitir conhecimentos, atuando no campo educacional e científico, em todos os seus níveis, tornando-os acessíveis à comunidade, e contribuindo principalmente para o desenvolvimento da região.

As Faculdades São Camilo são compostas por três unidades de atuação distintas:

A Escola Superior de Ciências da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Vitória (EMESCAM) iniciou suas atividades em março de 1968, revolucionando o ensino de Medicina e a formação de Médicos no Espírito Santo. Hoje, com mais de três mil médicos formados atuando em vários Estados brasileiros, a EMESCAM é uma das mais respeitadas Faculdades de Medicina do Brasil, se tornando não mais uma alternativa, mas uma referência para aqueles que pretendem seguir a carreira Médica.
