Há lugares que têm alma. E se não é fácil explicar o que seja isso, reconhecemos essa qualidade sensível quando nos encontramos num deles. A Livraria da Travessa – há muito presente na memória afetiva do Rio – é um desses espaços em que a cidade retorna à escala humana e a paisagem se torna íntima, acolhedora.
Era 1975 quando os cariocas ganharam uma livraria cujo nome curioso parecia ser uma vaga alusão à Guerra Fria, ou a Sartre, ou à ditadura militar: Muro. Em plena Ipanema, reduto de memória da bossa nova (com Vinicius e Tom ainda presentes), cenário de militância política, moda, arte de vanguarda e contracultura, a Muro firmou-se como lugar de encontro, discussão, literatura e resistência. Os poetas da chamada poesia marginal fizeram dela seu lugar privilegiado, lançando ali, com recitais e performances, os seus livros artesanais e de pequeníssima tiragem, hoje raridades bibliográficas. Adiante, em 1983, a Muro deu lugar à Dazibao, também em Ipanema, que, mais tarde, abriu filial na Travessa do Ouvidor, no Centro, tornando-se uma das principais importadoras e distribuidoras de livros do Rio. O endereço sugeriu o novo nome – Livraria da Travessa – já em meados dos anos 90. O Centro receberia mais uma filial, à Av. Rio Branco (num belo prédio remanescente da antiga Avenida Central) e, em Ipanema, origem de tudo, foram abertas duas, permanecendo aquela inaugurada em 2002. Em 2006, chegou a vez do Leblon. Em 2008, a da Barra.

Fundada em São Paulo no ano de 1943, a Livraria Nobel logo se destacou pela qualidade dos serviços prestados aos seus clientes. Atualmente, ela ocupe o posto de maior rede de livrarias do Brasil, com mais de 180 lojas distribuídas por todo o país e exterior.

Fundada em três de outubro de 1928, a Atheneu foi a primeira livraria do Brasil especializada em publicações da área de Medicina e Saúde. Nessa época, importava livros dos Estados Unidos e da Espanha para revendê-los em sua loja na rua Sete de Setembro, no centro do Rio de Janeiro. Muitos médicos vinham de várias regiões do país só para comprar seus livros.
Na década de 70, a Livraria Atheneu expande suas atividades, inaugura sua matriz na Rua Bambina, em Botafogo. Assim inicia uma nova fase de desenvolvimento, cujo marco é a instalação da sua sede editorial na cidade de São Paulo, com o objetivo de aprimorar a assessoria aos autores.
O catálogo da Atheneu, em 2003 já contava com mais de 600 livros. Atualmente, são lançadas em média, cinco publicações por mês, todas de autores nacionais.

Bluestockings is a radical bookstore, fair trade cafe, and activist center in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. We've recently expanded both our space and our hours. We can now fit more books and more comfortably host events.
We carry over 4000 titles on topics such as queer and gender studies, global capitalism, feminism, police and prisons, democracy studies, and black liberation. The ranks of New Haven's used bookstores have thinned a little in recent years: Whitlock's on Broadway is gone, so too is the fine Elm City Books, which had a good run on York Street a few years back. But even if those stores were still around, the Book Trader would be a worthy winner of this category. And even if you couldn't buy a delicious sandwich or muffin here, it would still be a major destination for book lovers. The key is selectivity. The shelves are not weighted down by mediocrity, but rather lifted up by good stuff. Some of it is obvious: You'll get your Ian McEwan, your Kazuo Ishiguro, your Jonathan Spence. Some of it is more obscure: Sitting on shelves in recent weeks has been a first edition of John Ashbery's hard-to-find novel, which he co-authored with James Schuyler. And you can also buy a good paperback mystery or sci-fi adventure.

Books, comics, prints and stuff.

Having spent my first career in education and been a lover of good books, I hoped my next career would include books. I have always believed every town should have their own community bookstore, a place filled with good books, the type that get people to feel, to think, discuss, laugh and enjoy. To prepare for this goal, I worked part-time at a bookstore and learned the day to day operations. I took a course on the essentials of opening a quality bookstore and visited as many bookstores in New Jersey as I could. I found many bookstore owners to be both warm and generous with their time. Many of these owners have become close colleagues and remain a strong network helping my own bookstore, thrive and grow.

Cave Comics opened on May 15th 1989 in the old train station in Newtown CT. It's a great old building with 14 foot ceiling giving us a nice open feeling space. We are always striving to be a helpful, informative and fun store that welcomes everyone. Whether its your first comic or the next of many, we're here to make it a great experience.

Autores como Miguel Arraes, Celso Furtado, Paulo Freire, Dias Gomes, Érico Veríssimo, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Chico Buarque e Barbosa Lima Sobrinho, entre outros - que assinavam artigos no jornal semanal alternativo Opinião e na revista Argumento. Ambas as publicações tiveram a circulação suspensa por imposição da censura e encerraram suas atividades na década de 70.
Foi com o espírito de oposição ao governo que a revista mensal emprestou seu nome e conceito à livraria, que recebeu exilados e importantes pensadores da questão nacional.
No início da década de oitenta, com os primeiros ensaios de uma abertura política, o conceito se consolidou, e nos anos noventa incorporou a atual idéia de aliar a leitura e o consumo de livros ao consumo de Cd's, gastronomia, e eventos, sendo pioneira neste conceito.
