Beckley Inc. has always prided themselves on using the finest hand picked materials on all our products ranging from the hardwoods used in making a boxspring to the blended cotton felt we have sent to us from down south. In addition to that, and most importantly, we believe in the quality of our workmanship. Each piece of custom bedding is all hand made by our skilled craftsman. Throughout the years, even with the temptation of commercial machinery, we managed to keep our manufacturing very personal as to each client's needs. Each mattress is hand filled and hand stitched, each boxspring is hand tied and individually upholstered and so on. That's why we here at Charles H. The Gracious Home Story Of course, there are many “beginnings.” We could talk about childhoods spent collecting seashells in Camaguey. But let’s just start with 1963, when Natan Wekselbaum and his brother left Cuba for New York City and opened up a little neighborhood hardware store on the Upper East Side. Nuts. Bolts. Most people associate the name Aga with good food and fine living. And although it’s often thought of as quintessentially British, the Aga actually began life in Sweden. The celebrated cooker found in 750,000 households worldwide was invented by Dr Gustav Dalén, a blind Nobel Prize-winning physicist. Appalled that his wife and their maid had to constantly tend to their old-fashioned range, Dalén set out to design a modern cooker that would look after itself. It’s unlikely Dalén could have predicted that his invention would go on to be widely acclaimed as a design icon, but it has. In the year 2000, the BBC published a retrospective of the 20th Century highlighting what it considered to be the top three design icons: first was the Coca-Cola® contour bottle, second was the VW™ Bug and third was the Aga cooker.
