The Laury Group, Inc. was established in 1968 when Laury Ford Jeambon, who was Personnel Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the Sunday Editor of The New York Times, decided that even the best of all possible work worlds could be fraught with office politics. She decided to leave and work on her own. Combining her background in human relations with her executive and editorial experience, she became, in effect, her first "temp," offering employers her executive administrative skills on an as-needed basis. In no time at all, Laury was inundated with requests for "more Laurys" from former employers and current clients.

The name of the dance company is derived from the initial members of the group being half from Santo Domingo (Santo) and half from Puerto Rico (Rico), hence the name "Santo Rico." Santo Rico was initially formed by Wilton Beltre, a Dominican native, who expressed his love for dance by displaying his street style of dancing Mambo/Salsa in local nightclubs in New York City. Prior to forming Santo Rico, Wilton received dancing instruction from the well renowned Eddie Torres. This gave him professionalism, grace and ultimately led to the development of a unique style. During his stint with Mr. Torres Wilton excelled and brought his dancing ability to such a high level that he became one of the most outstanding members of The Eddie Torres Dance Company.

The concerts originally scheduled for August 27 and 28 and canceled due to Hurricane Irene will now be consolidated into one and will take place on Friday, September 23 at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem.

Levain began as a small artisan bakery located in the heart of Manhattan's Upper West Side. First opened on December 16, 1995. Levain Bakery was founded by Connie McDonald and Pamela Weekes. Because the bakery is a small neighborhood place, where everything is made on the premises, visitors are able to watch the entire production of all the breads and cookies.
