Devonshire Mall opened August 12,1970. The area was previously the "Devonshire Raceway" in the earlier part of the 20th Century, until burning down in 1939.
When Devonshire Mall opened its doors 21 years later, it boasted 70 stores. Since then, the mall has had five expansions: 1974, 1985, 1987, 1995, and 2000. Now, with 175 stores and services and over 1 million square feet in size, Devonshire Mall dominates the retail landscape in Windsor and the lower southern expanse of Ontario. Green Acres Mall first opened in 1956 as one of Long Island's first open-air centers serving the needs of numerous communities. To create an even more appealing shopping environment, the center was enclosed in 1968, and housed three anchor stores. As the surrounding area's population continued to grow, so did the mall with an expansion and renovation in 1983 that added a second level, food court and an additional anchor, Sears.
