Following a tradition which has been molded through the years by hard-working citizens of Spencer, the county seat of Roane County, this year's Festival promises to provide a whirlwind of activities, offering something for everyone.
The creation of one of this state's best attended festivals began in 1954 when Henry Young sold two million pounds of black walnuts. Young's sale of the local product gave a member of the Little Kanawha Regional Council the idea of developing the black walnuts into a cash crop for local farmers.

2012 marks the 64th Virginia Highlands Festival and will be held from July 28 to August 12. Appalachian culture showcased in crafts, art and music.
The festival was started in 1948 by Robert Porterfield, founder of the Barter Theatre, as a simple one-week festival to showcase Appalachian arts and crafts. The festival has now grown into a 16 day event offering a variety of venues. Every year hundreds of volunteers work to create exciting new events for our festival for you to enjoy. The 2012 theme, "Carved from Our Past." Our 2012 signature art is a wood carving by this year's Signature Artist, John Dickens and will be unveiled soon. Please enjoy our beautiful mountains, forests, and streams while here and all the activities planned for you throughout Southwest Virginia. There is something everyone, old and young alike. September/October - Baltimore Book Festival! The mid-Atlantic's premier celebration of the literary arts features 200+ nationally known and local authors, poetry readings, cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs/cookbook authors, children's writers and activities, live music, food and more than 75 exhibitors and book sellers.
Located in Mount Vernon Square, the Washington Monument overlooks the festival site and offers the perfect location for a weekend outing.

America's most decorated Battleship is now the area's most exciting museum, open for tours, events and overnight encampments. Exploring “BB62” is experiencing history in a whole new way. Not only do you see exhibits of artifacts from the ship’s past, but you are put into the exhibit as you go through the tour route. Sit in the chair from which Admiral Halsey commanded the fleet. Stretch out on the bunks where the sailors slept. Climb into the 16” gun turret and learn how the projectiles were loaded.

First full moon between Jan 21 and Feb 19 A noisy, colorful occasion celebrated from noon to sunset around Mott St. Though dragons still dance in the street, firecrackers no longer chase away evil spirits because former Mayor Giuliani banned them for most events. The chances of getting a meal anywhere in Chinatown at this time are slim.

November - Paying homage to the annual migrating Canada geese flying overhead, Easton closes colonial streets, decorates historic buildings with natural greens, and recruits 1,500 volunteers to greet 18,000 visitors and 400 of the nation's finest wildlife artists, craftsmen and vendors with a ready smile and a helping hand. Excitement radiates throughout the town and neighboring St. Michaels, Oxford and Tilghman Island. Enjoy the 36th annual Festival, the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay, fine restaurants, and quaint shops lining historic streets.

Friday, July 6th 2012 at 7:30pm Dress in a Patriotic Theme! Start your daily regimen of crunches, planks, and bicycles to prepare for the big day and get pumped for an awesome event! The Underwear Run is a 1.7 mile fun run that takes place in Central Park every year on the Friday before the Aquaphor New York City Triathlon. No transitions, no timing chips, no expensive race gear, just 500 strangers running around in their underwear. Another typical summer evening in New York City!! The 2012 "Celebrate America" Underwear Run wants all participants to dress as patriotic as possible! Get your George Washington and Lady Liberty on... in underwear!

Celebrate Brooklyn! is back in Prospect Park for its 35th summer of providing a wide variety of exciting programming at the Bandshell. Congratulations to the Executive Producer of Celebrate Brooklyn! October - Bridge Day is the largest BASE jumping event in the world, held on the third Saturday in October every year in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Over 450 BASE jumpers and up to 200,000 spectators are expected to attend this year’s Bridge Day on Saturday, October 21, 2006. The New River Gorge Bridge is the world’s 2nd longest single arch bridge, providing the launch point for six hours (9am-3pm EST) of legal, safe BASE jumps.

September - Kennett Square, Pennsylvania has long been known as “The Mushroom Capital of the World,” with more mushroom growing operations concentrated in the Southern Chester County area than any other area in the United States. The Mushroom Festival promotes our favorite crop, MUSHROOMS, Kennett Square and tourism in Southern Chester County. Our Festival began 49 years ago in the parking lot of our school an elementary school rich in Catholic and Polish Traditions. Our festival consisted of arts and crafts and of course our wonderful Polish Homemade foods. Our Festival was on a Saturday and Sunday and held in September just after school started.

September. In 1972 The Rutland Fair became officially the Vermont State Fair.
The Fair has had top name entertainers such as Loretta Lynn, Buck Owens, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, Charlie Pride.

Based on the interest in her book, Haunted Newport, local writer/editor Eleyne Austen Sharp first proposed the idea for Haunted Newport Week in 1996. The annual event would celebrate Halloween while helping to extend the Newport tourism season.

We are a charity event, founded by Gypsy~Rose, that raises money for local non-profit orginizations. If you'd like to help support the NH Renaissance Faire & Samhain Celebration there are LOTS of ways to do so, (buying tee-shirts, steins, magnets or mugs, ad space, donations, art work and more).
This event is run by volunteers and is hosted in a *gorgeous* location in Kingston, NH. There are infinate amounts of things to do at this event; shop for local handcrafted arts and goods, listen to minstrels, acts and musicians, watch belly dance and firedance performances, fight life-sized dragons, get a reading from a local psychic, have tea with the Queen, eat wonderful renaissance food, attend a Samhain Celebration, (Samhain is a Celtic Holiday from the period), play games, do some pirating... or learn how to, fight knights, watch live steel combat, get your photo(s) taken and just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere.

August - SoulFest is growing! We anticipate our anniversary year to be a great success. We are making plans to make room for more people here are some important changes to camping.
On Site camping is reserved exclusively for multi-day SoulFest ticket buyers.

The Maine Brewers’ Festival has become a fall tradition. People come from all over the Country to raise a glass, toast, dance, and enjoy!
