Socrates Sculpture Park was an abandoned riverside landfill and illegal dumpsite until 1986 when a coalition of artists and community members, under the leadership of artist Mark di Suvero, transformed it into an open studio and exhibition space for artists and a neighborhood park for local residents. Today it is an internationally renowned outdoor museum and artist residency program that also serves as a vital New York City park offering a wide variety of public services.

The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is located in Flushing, in the New York City borough of Queens and has been the home of the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament played every year in August and September. According to the United States Tennis Association, the center is the largest public tennis facility in the world with 22 courts inside the facility and 11 more in the adjoining park. The South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. Built almost 75 Years ago, this theatre once housed 3,000 people and was a showcase for celebrities of that time and later, as a motion picture venue. It enjoyed a successful economic life from 1929 until the 1970’s. At that time, vaudeville was entertainment of a bygone era and multi-screen, small capacity motion picture theatres were cropping up throughout the island. Attempts were made to re-vitalize the theatre by using it as a flea market, an antique showroom, a night club, and skating rink. None of these lasted very long and many who remembered or heard fond stories of its past grandeur, wondered what would become of the beautiful St. George Theatre . Hope was raised in January 2001 when, in his State of the City address, then Mayor Rudolph Giuliani promised resources for the renovation of the St.George Theatre into a Performing Arts Center which would ensure revitalization into the entire neighborhood. Unfortunately, the tragic events of 9/11/01 understandably put a halt to these resources.

The Dutchess County Agricultural Society, Inc. is a nonprofit 501c5 corporation. The 80 member society is made up of interested men and women who elect the 16 member Board of Directors. This group oversees all aspects of the operation of the fair and all off season events. The General Manager works with and communicates directly to the Board. A permanent staff of eleven produces the various events and maintains the 162-acre facility throughout the year. The number of paid staff and volunteers during the fair grows to several hundred.

The Aqua Zoo in Alexandria Bay has a large variety of marine life on display in over 80 exhibits and more than 15,000 gallons of fresh and sea water, the Aqua Zoo is one of the largest privately owned aquariums of its kind in the United States or Canada. <br> Fabulous coral reefs, which were imported from the Fiji Islands, will amaze you. The Big Kahuna The most visible enhancement to the park this year can be seen climbing 75 feet into the air: the Big Kahuna is an extreme tubing experience, which begins as guests board a four-person raft headed for a spiraling ride more than 700 feet long. This botanical gardens is the product of three extraordinary visionaries: landscaping architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, architects Lord & Burnham and botanist / plant-explorer John F. "The Eagle Institute public programs are held during the winter months, when 150-200 bald eagles migrate to this region. To minimize disturbance during the breeding season, our only public program from March through July is in cooperation with the Basha Kill Area Association’s thebashakill.org Nature Watch program. We also collect data about the region’s nesting pairs and encourage participation through our Kitchen Counters Program."

The idea of a ski resort in the Northern Catskills was introduced by a New York State legislative committee in the late 1950s. They considered developing a state-run resort on Cave Mountain, just off Main Street in the Town of Windham. Although this project never advanced beyond the discussion stage, the idea took hold and a group of private investors purchased the land for a ski area in 1960 and Windham Mountain was born. During its 50 years of existence the resort has become associated with customer care and attentiveness to its guests.

Peter Dubacher started the Berkshire Bird Paradise, a certified not for profit company back in 1972 as a "labor of love." It has grown into one of the largest bird sanctuaries in the country. The sanctuary has evolved into an outdoors educational institution, where students on field trips with their parents or on college internship programs can learn about birds. The sanctuary is also a small botanical garden with hundreds of plants and exotic flowers .We are constantly improving our grounds, with the help of great volunteers.

Founded in 1900 by the financier Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina, herself a poet, Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment. <br> Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following media: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Artists may apply individually or as members of collaborative teams of two or three persons. They are selected by panels of other professional artists without regard to financial means. Residencies last from two weeks to two months and include room, board, and studio.

A landmark beacon on the Hudson River, the Saugerties Lighthouse is a venerable red-brick lighthouse built in 1869 at the mouth of the Esopus Creek. The Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy maintains the lighthouse and adjacent lands for the enjoyment of the public.

The Panama Rocks are reputed to be the world's most extensive outcropping of glacier-sculpted, ocean-quartz-conglomerate rock. Geologists believe the rocks originated as sand and gravel sea islands, over 300 million years ago. The islands were part of a huge river delta. Over aeons, the islands were covered by thousands of feet of sediments, and were 'pressure compacted' into rock. About 165 million years ago, the rock was fractured and uplifted to its present altitude [1650']. During the last Ice Age, a glacier cut-into and unearthed the rock. Since that time a lush, mixed forest has grown over the site.

The 600-acre wetland preserve maintained by the Jamestown Audubon Society supports a great variety of wildlife. Hikers who are patient and quiet are treated to many spectacular finds - no matter what the season.
