21 years ago, June 1982 to be exact, something began to bubble on Varick Street in lower Manhattan. Fueled by a total commitment to exposing the musical wealth and heritage of the Afro-Latino Diaspora to as many people as possible, Larry Gold opened the doors to what would become New York City's premier venue for world music; Sounds Of Brazil, commonly known as S.O.B.'S.

The Groove is the home of rhythm, blues and funk in New York City. Admission is always free and we carry a complete restaurant menu and a well stocked bar.

The Chelsea Brewing Company is located on pier 59 which is also the home of New York City's only high-tech Golf driving range and a 30,000 square foot fashion photography studio.<br> The 12,000 square foot restaurant & microbrewery features 24 foot ceilings, mahogany wood bars and a cigar lounge. An establishment used for selling and drinking alcoholic beverages during the period of the United States history known as Prohibition (1920-1933) when selling or buying alcohol was illegal. The end of Prohibition was marked by President FDR famously announcing, “WHAT AMERICA NEEDS NOW IS A DRINK.”

The primary building stretches twelve stories along East 83rd Street with views toward the East River, creating an urban campus atmosphere that feels particularly intimate during winter months when the river takes on a quieter character. Just a few blocks north on East 87th Street, the Field House opens up space for a full slate of athletic pursuits—basketball, volleyball, soccer, swimming, squash, track, field hockey, and lacrosse all find homes here, with the facility providing a welcome refuge for winter sports and indoor training when the season turns cold.

All of our programs are based on a professional boxer's training regimen, with some modifications. These are not aerobic or circuit boxing classes. Our philosophy is that in order to get the full benefits of boxing, your training should reflect that of a professional fighter. This does not mean you will be drinking raw eggs and hitting sides of beef. It does mean that we hold you to the same standards we do a professional fighter. When you train, train to win.
