"Whiskey Ed" Houdek first opened the doors to Ye Olde Spirit Shoppe in 1965. Back then he'd deliver mail for the Bayport Post Office during the day and at night he'd work selling fine liquors and wine. In 1972 Ed doubled the size of the store making it so long and narrow that you could fit four lanes of bowling within the store's walls. But instead of balls and pins, we have the area's largest selection of fine wines and liquors.

Roanoke Vineyards is owned by long-time Long Island Vinyardist Richard Pisacano and his wife Soraya. Richard has been tending vines and growing grapes in this appellation for over thirty years; he has helped plant and/or maintain most of the first vineyards on the island. For over ten years, he has been the Vineyard Manager at Wölffer Estates. Richard brings a lifetime of experience to Roanoke Vineyards, and in just four years, has already amassed a formidable collection of accolades, including the award for "Best Vinifera Red Blend" at the 2006 New York Wine and Food Classic. Richard's partner-in-wine is Roman Roth, the winemaker behind Wölffer's fine wines, as well as his own prestigious Grapes of Roth.

The Paumanok flight runs $6 per person while the Grand Vintage option is $10. Buying three bottles or more means your tasting fee gets applied straight to the total. Club members skip the fee altogether, which is a nice perk on those crisp winter afternoons when lingering over wine hits just right.
