If it’s interesting, if it’s impressive, if it’s hippy and happy and one-of-a-kind—then odds are it’s probably from Pier 1 Imports. After all, Pier 1 has been the place for unique finds for over 40 years. Our buyers travel the world’s major capitals and small villages hunting for the kinds of treasures you can’t find just anywhere—fresh and fragrant candles, exotic wicker, hand-painted dinnerware, gorgeous textiles and thoughtful handmade gifts.
The focus here is original. Everything has a global, artisan feel but the charm is always familiar. You’ll see that each time you visit us. We display our selections so it’s easy to locate all your favorites or discover something new and totally unexpected. |

Most people associate the name Aga with good food and fine living. And although it’s often thought of as quintessentially British, the Aga actually began life in Sweden. The celebrated cooker found in 750,000 households worldwide was invented by Dr Gustav Dalén, a blind Nobel Prize-winning physicist. Appalled that his wife and their maid had to constantly tend to their old-fashioned range, Dalén set out to design a modern cooker that would look after itself. It’s unlikely Dalén could have predicted that his invention would go on to be widely acclaimed as a design icon, but it has. In the year 2000, the BBC published a retrospective of the 20th Century highlighting what it considered to be the top three design icons: first was the Coca-Cola® contour bottle, second was the VW™ Bug and third was the Aga cooker.

Karl's may be geographically located in Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, but you'll experience more than just brotherly love in this store. You'll receive an entire family's full-service and tender loving care!
The history of Karl's is spanning three generations of ownership. In 1920, Simon and Florence Richman opened the doors of Karl's on the premise that the customer deserves unique merchandise and impeccable service. Forty years later, they were succeeded by their son, Alan Richman, who also held this philosophy close to his heart. Alan followed this philosophy so closely that he became known as "Uncle Alan", a trust-worthy individual who tickled a customer's fancy through a series of endearing advertisements. The Richman family takes pride in serving your family. From generations past and new generations yet to come, Karl's can't help but uphold the tradition of "Caring Family Service." |

It all started in 1936 by Martha and Samuel Gorin. They opened an upholstery shop at 81 Franklin Street in downtown Norwich, known then as the Colonial Upholstery Company. They eventually expanded and became the Colonial Upholstery and Bedding Company. As the years passed, they grew, taking over the four floors of 81 through 87 Franklin Street and renamed the company to the Colonial Upholstery and Furniture Company.
