Despite an array of different influences in the last 200 years, much of this traditional British food has remained a mainstay of Australian cuisine, particularly in Australian pub fare such as meat pies and fish and chips.

In 1964 Marguerite and Dominic started serving pizza and sandwiches from a small corner in the back of a bar called the Squan Tavern. Dominic was a meat cutter in a supermarket in Long Branch during the day and used to drive down to Manasquan at night to work at the Squan Tavern serving the foods that he was raised on.
