The Missouri Historical Society seeks to deepen the understanding of past choices, present circumstances, and future possibilities; strengthen the bonds of the community; and facilitate solutions to common problems.

The purpose of the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center, Inc., an educational institution of the Haines Borough, is committed to collecting, preserving and interpreting through history, art and unique blending of diverse cultures within the Chilkat Valley. The Sheldon Museum's presentation of artifacts, clan trust property, and memorabilia enhances quality of life for area residents and visitors; informs researchers and historians; inspires artists and creative writers; and encourages community pride through permanent, temporary, and traveling exhibits, and through a variety of programs for schools and the public.

A visit to the Royal London Wax Museum is a journey into the pages of time. The museum documents a myriad of events through some three hundred historical personages from early to contemporary times. The Alice Austen House Museum in Staten Island pays homage to Austen’s work by showcasing her vast talents and restoring her home to an era gone by. When visiting this Staten Island museum, patrons will find themselves admiring the beautiful gardens and simple Victorian design that defines the house that was Alice Austen’s life. By stepping between the doors, you enter in to the private life of this powerfully observant woman and the chronicles of how Austen led her own life via her own testimonials and the documentations of those around her. Hundreds of pictures that Austen took in her lifetime surround you and demand your attention at every turn, complimented by the works of those inspired by her. In Spring 2012, this Staten Island museum featured “Foreclosed” which was a documentation of the American housing crisis. A stunning look between Austen’s work and the modern pieces, “Foreclosed” is a great example of what New York City museums offer, a slice of life.

In 1756, Samuel Fleming bought 210 acres for his house. At that time there were "more wolves than sheep, more bears than horses, and more Indians than settlers." Fleming Castle is now a public museum. Its main goal is to convert the structure for public use with activities for all. In May 2006 the Fleming Castle (Samuel Fleming House) celebrated its 250th birthday.

America's most decorated Battleship is now the area's most exciting museum, open for tours, events and overnight encampments. Exploring “BB62” is experiencing history in a whole new way. Not only do you see exhibits of artifacts from the ship’s past, but you are put into the exhibit as you go through the tour route. Sit in the chair from which Admiral Halsey commanded the fleet. Stretch out on the bunks where the sailors slept. Climb into the 16” gun turret and learn how the projectiles were loaded.

The North Dakota Museum of Art collects contemporary, international art in all media starting with the early 1970s (the founding of the Museum) onwards. It collects the visual history of the region. It is also assembling a survey collection of contemporary Native American art, starting with the early 1970s when the movement emerged. This does not preclude the acceptance of collections that are outside this focus if they would enrich the visual life of our audience, i.e. a historical textile collection.

The Weitzel Gallery showcases canadian artist Al Nelson Weitzel's unique creations of wildlife, horse and western art.

O Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia é uma instituição estadual e está ligado à Secult - Secretaria de Cultura da Bahia e ao Ipac – Instituto do Patrimônio Artístico e Cultural do Estado, autarquia vinculada à Secult e gestora dos museus estaduais baianos, cuja finalidade é preservar os bens culturais do Estado e colaborar na formulação de políticas educacionais de cunho patrimonial, através da pesquisa, documentação, restauração e difusão da produção técnica e científica necessária a essa preservação.

O Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade de São Paulo (lO-USP) foi fundado em 1946, como Instituto Paulista de Oceanografia. Em 1951, mudou para seu nome atual quando foi incorporado à USP. Na época de fundação, os objetivos de seus idealizadores apontavam para a necessidade de uma instituição que fornecesse bases científicas à pesca e, numa concepção mais ampla, à exploração de todos os recursos disponíveis ao longo do litoral paulista.

Numa aconchegante casa construída na década de 40, cercada de um bem cuidado e florido jardim, no município de Seara, interior de Santa Catarina, viveu um dos milhares de imigrantes alemães que chegaram ao Brasil no início do século. A história desse teuto-brasileiro seria igual à de tantos outros imigrantes do sul do país que trabalharam duro para garantir as condições mínimas de sobrevivência num ambiente inóspito, não fosse ele Fritz Plaumann, um dos mais respeitados entomologistas do mundo.

A Casa do Patrimônio Ferroviário Brasileiro, conhecido como Museu do Trem, administrado pela REDE FERROVIÁRIA FEDERAL, foi inaugurado em fevereiro de 1984. Instalado no antigo galpão de pinturas de carros da Estrada de Ferro Pedro II. São destaques: A BARONEZA, construída na Inglaterra, foi a primeira locomotiva a trafegar no Brasil em 1854. O CARRO IMPERIAL que foi fabricado em 1886, na Bélgica, para servir ao imperador D. Pedro II; O CARRO DO REI ALBERTO, que fazia parte da composição adaptada exclusivamente para servir ao Rei da Bélgica, em 1921, por ocasião da sua visita ao Brasil e O CARRO PRESIDENCIAL que serviu a Getulio Vargas na década de 30. Empresário bem-sucedido, Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968) soube conciliar atividades empresariais muito bem sucedidas com as de realização de projetos culturais. A sua atividade como colecionador que nos legou os registros materiais desse esforço. O apoio a valores artísticos nacionais e a busca do acesso público às suas coleções tornavam-no um tipo de mecenas moderno e urbano, comprometido com a cidade em que vivia É igualmente importante destacar a sua participação na fundação do Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, em 1948, do qual foi o primeiro presidente.

Construído em 1872 por Bento Joaquim Alves Pereira, rico português residente no Rio de Janeiro, o Palacete Bartholdy ou Solar do Jambeiro é um notável exemplar da arquitetura residencial urbana burguesa, em meados do século XIX. Em meio à bela chácara arborizada, ergue-se o amplo sobrado, revestido de autênticos azulejos de padrão, típicos das construções portuguesas.

A Casa das Rosas, localizada na Avenida Paulista número 37, foi projetada na década de 1930 pelo escritório de Ramos de Azevedo, para ser a residência de sua filha Lúcia, recém casada com o engenheiro Ernesto Dias de Castro. A bela casa, hoje referência na vida do paulistano, foi uma das últimas construções realizadas na avenida.

Atual sede do Museu da Polícia Civil, funcionou como sede da Polícia da Capital desde os primeiros anos da República, fatos marcantes da vida da nação e seus personagens tiveram relação com as atividades execidas nas suas dependências, quer de natureza política, tais como agitações políticas, revoluções, hostilidade dos países do Eixo e declaração de guerra, quer de natureza social envolvendo delinqüência, costumes e religiosidade, ou de natureza econômico-financeira no que tange as grandes fraudes e sonegações.
O imóvel histórico representa um dos mais belos exemplos da linguagem eclética da Arquitetura do Rio de Janeiro. Não bastasse a sua imponência volumétrica através do vocabulário arquitetônico do mais puro gosto eclético francês, recebeu a assinatura de paternidade de um dos mais destacados arquitetos do início do século XX, Heitor de Mello, que a partir da criação de um projeto com a imagem sofisticada de belle époque da sociedade carioca, engajou-se na atitude política do então governo da Capital Federal, no sentido de modernizar, embelezar e sanear a Cidade do Rio de Janeiro.

Formado inicialmente ao longo dos anos 40 e 50 por inúmeras doações de artistas, empresários e algumas instituições oficiais, o acervo do Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro constituiu-se uma das coleções de arte do século XX mais importantes no país. Apresentando um panorama completo e sofisticado da evolução artística de nosso século, dentro e fora do Brasil.

Construído em 1914, com o objetivo de reforçar a defesa da Baía de Guanabara, o Forte de Copacabana oferece aos seus visitantes muitas curiosidades e atrações. No Museu Histórico do Exército, fatos marcantes estão registrados através de exposições, exibições de vídeo, maquetes e, até, um setor interativo, original e bastante visitado pelos freqüentadores do Forte. The DOCKYARD MUSEUM in the Naval Officer's House interprets the story of English Harbour and of the people that toiled in this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard. It also explains the 20th century return of sailing ships and the aims and aspirations of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. There is also a small "Nelson's Room" with a life sized portrait of Nelson researched through archaeological means.
