The landmark tavern at Five Points in Mercerville was built in the mid-1700s. The exact date is not known, but it is rumored that George Washington and his troops passed by the tavern on their way to the “Battle of Princeton”. In later years, the tavern was owned by many prominent area families and can lay claim to the oldest liquor license issued in Hamilton Township.

In 1964 Marguerite and Dominic started serving pizza and sandwiches from a small corner in the back of a bar called the Squan Tavern.
