Five Points Academy is a unique facility located in downtown New York City, on the border of Chinatown and Soho. We take our name from the historic and infamous neighborhood known as The Five Points, which was located just a few blocks away from our landmark building. <br> Five Points Academy is an independent, member-oriented semi-private club staffed with professional, experienced personal trainers, who recognize members by name. Formed by a dedicated and inspired group of teachers and practitioners in 1987 as a regional arm of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. Iyengar Yoga aims were threefold: to support the teaching of Iyengar yoga throughout our four-state area, to establish a central place for study and teaching that would embody the highest standards of a transformational practice of yoga, and to connect our practitioners with others in the United States and throughout the world and to the source of our inspiration, B.K.S. Iyengar, our teacher.

At the age of eight Sadguru Sri Mahayogi Paramahamsa spontaneously entered nirvikalpa samadhi, complete absorption without any notion or concept, and realized the Atman — True Self. He awoke to Non-dual Reality. After Realization, as an adolescent, he began intensive austerities called tapasya and through these he accomplished and mastered all the branches of Yoga, proving through his own experience that they are all genuine paths to the realization of Supreme Self or God — Everlasting Oneness or Immortal Truth.

Thai yoga is performed in comfortable clothing, barefoot, on a floor mat and is suitable for clients of all ages and abilities. The Upper Eastside Studio is located on the corner of East 76th Street and 1st Avenue. The studio entrance is located on the northeast corner of East 76th Street and 1st Avenue above the 3 Star Diner. Follow the stairs up the first stairway to the second floor. Please note that the buzzer is outside the first door but opens the inner door.

Joseph Pilates created original pieces of equipment for his exercise system that he called “Contrology.” His studio in New York City had a workshop where he created his designs. Today, there are many different companies that now manufacture Pilates equipment. <br> The Pilates Movement uses equipment produced by Gratz Industries. Gratz Industries is one of the only manufacturers that produces equipment closest to the original designs. Pilates equipment is different than your typical gym equipment. The equipment has springs, leather straps, wooden and leather handles, and fuzzy foot straps. Through the use of springs, instead of weights, the equipment helps to show you where the muscles are and how they work within the movement. Performing a series of controlled movements that work against the resistance of springs is unlike using your average machine in a gym.

HGC’s roots date back to the East Hampton Gym which was established in 1996. Following a head-to-toe renovation of the Fitness Center of the Hamptons, the East Hampton Gym became the mecca for personal training in the Hamptons. After another facelift and equipment overhaul in 2006, the East Hampton Gym remains THE gym to be seen in. Sandy Godina is a former attorney who received her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997.  She was introduced to Pilates while practicing law and enjoyed it so much that she changed careers.  Sandy received her certification from Romana’s Pilates, where she trained with Joseph Pilates’ world-renowned protégé, Romana Kryzanowska, and master instructor Sari Mejia Santos.

Kim Curran received her Pilates Certification from the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), an international professional association for the Pilates Method and the national leader in the Pilates Movement. <br> Kims enthusiasm for fitness began early in life. As a child and teenager, she studied both dance and gymnastics. Her interest in health and fitness led her to attend nursing school and receive numerous fitness certifications. She has taught aerobics and spinning classes for years. She is also a certified Personal Trainer and has trained clients in both a gym and home environment for over 15 years. She has trained adults, children and clients with special needs and injuries as well as body builders preparing for figure and fitness shows.
