The idea of a ski resort in the Northern Catskills was introduced by a New York State legislative committee in the late 1950s. They considered developing a state-run resort on Cave Mountain, just off Main Street in the Town of Windham. Although this project never advanced beyond the discussion stage, the idea took hold and a group of private investors purchased the land for a ski area in 1960 and Windham Mountain was born. During its 50 years of existence the resort has become associated with customer care and attentiveness to its guests.

RockSport proudly offers 4,200 square feet of indoor rock climbing. This includes many features such as overhanging walls, bouldering caves, and beginner walls. Since opening in 1990, we have safely introduced over 13,000 people to climbing for all ages, abilities, fitness, and interest levels. We are the only indoor climbing gym located in the Queensbury area. It is just minutes from the popular Adirondack destination of Lake George and 15-20 minutes from Saratoga, NY.

The cathedral was finally completed in 1879, and the doors were opened to the public in May of that year. However, the cathedral's construction was not yet finished, and in 1888, Archbishop Michael Corrigan added the towers on the West Front of the cathedral. In 1901, Corrigan began work on the east addition, which included the construction of the Lady Chapel.

Allegany State Park’s 65,000 acres is known for its primitive forested valleys, un-glaciated landscape, fall leaves and wildlife. The Panama Rocks are reputed to be the world's most extensive outcropping of glacier-sculpted, ocean-quartz-conglomerate rock. Geologists believe the rocks originated as sand and gravel sea islands, over 300 million years ago. The islands were part of a huge river delta. Over aeons, the islands were covered by thousands of feet of sediments, and were 'pressure compacted' into rock. About 165 million years ago, the rock was fractured and uplifted to its present altitude [1650']. During the last Ice Age, a glacier cut-into and unearthed the rock. Since that time a lush, mixed forest has grown over the site.

Peter Dubacher started the Berkshire Bird Paradise, a certified not for profit company back in 1972 as a "labor of love." It has grown into one of the largest bird sanctuaries in the country. The sanctuary has evolved into an outdoors educational institution, where students on field trips with their parents or on college internship programs can learn about birds. The sanctuary is also a small botanical garden with hundreds of plants and exotic flowers .We are constantly improving our grounds, with the help of great volunteers.

The Aqua Zoo in Alexandria Bay has a large variety of marine life on display in over 80 exhibits and more than 15,000 gallons of fresh and sea water, the Aqua Zoo is one of the largest privately owned aquariums of its kind in the United States or Canada.
Fabulous coral reefs, which were imported from the Fiji Islands, will amaze you. They feature dozens of different species of invertebrates, living coral, and various other life forms.
