Built by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., son of the architect of Central Park, in 1935, and gifted to the city of New York by John D. Rockefeller in 1917, Fort Tryon Park remains one of the city’s most beautiful outdoor pieces of art and one of the best presents ever received.
Centuries after its creation, parkgoers can picnic, run, play, and enjoy the historic architecture that has survived and thrived within the park. Beyond its dedication to natural beauty, as evidenced by its gardens and grounds, Fort Tryon Park is unique in its dedication to manmade art. Perched high above its northern grounds are the Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum that houses nearly 5,000 medieval works in a reconstructed medieval monastery. The Statue of Liberty was gifted to the United States from the people of France in 1886 to celebrate the centennial of American independence and to symbolize the friendship between the two countries. The statue stands at 151 feet tall, with the statue itself measuring 151 feet from the base to the tip of the torch and the pedestal adding an additional 154 feet.
The statue is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United States. Visitors can take a ferry to Liberty Island and then climb the 354 steps to the crown of the statue for a panoramic view of New York Harbor and the surrounding area. Visitors can also take a tour of the statue's pedestal and museum. The statue has become an enduring symbol of freedom and democracy, and is a symbol of hope and inspiration for people around the world. The statue was closed for renovation for several years and reopened in 2013 with a new museum and new exhibits about the statue's history and meaning.

Founded in 1900 by the financier Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina, herself a poet, Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment.
Yaddo offers residencies to professional creative artists from all nations and backgrounds working in one or more of the following media: choreography, film, literature, musical composition, painting, performance art, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Artists may apply individually or as members of collaborative teams of two or three persons. They are selected by panels of other professional artists without regard to financial means. Residencies last from two weeks to two months and include room, board, and studio.

To minimize disturbance during the breeding season, our only public program from March through July is in cooperation with the Basha Kill Area Association’s thebashakill.org Nature Watch program. We also collect data about the region’s nesting pairs and encourage participation through our Kitchen Counters Program."

The Dutchess County Agricultural Society, Inc. is a nonprofit 501c5 corporation. The 80 member society is made up of interested men and women who elect the 16 member Board of Directors. This group oversees all aspects of the operation of the fair and all off season events. The General Manager works with and communicates directly to the Board. A permanent staff of eleven produces the various events and maintains the 162-acre facility throughout the year. The number of paid staff and volunteers during the fair grows to several hundred.

This botanical gardens is the product of three extraordinary visionaries: landscaping architect Fredrick Law Olmsted, architects Lord & Burnham and botanist / plant-explorer John F. Cowell.
In 1985, the front entrance portico was renovated to reproduce the original design and the exhibits in the front houses were replaced. In 1990-96 the Shrub Garden was restored by Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, County staff at the Gardens and the Society.
    Aqua Zoo, Jefferson County

The Aqua Zoo in Alexandria Bay has a large variety of marine life on display in over 80 exhibits and more than 15,000 gallons of fresh and sea water, the Aqua Zoo is one of the largest privately owned aquariums of its kind in the United States or Canada.
Fabulous coral reefs, which were imported from the Fiji Islands, will amaze you. They feature dozens of different species of invertebrates, living coral, and various other life forms. You'll notice Gonipora Coral from Malaysia, Gorgonia from the Caribbean Sea, Leather corals from Indonesia, Hawaiian Feather Dusters, Sea Apples from the Australian Barrier Reef, and many more interesting creatures.
