O Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) foi inaugurado em 3 de setembro de 1965 pelo então governador do estado da Guanabara, Carlos Lacerda. O MIS lançou um gênero pioneiro de museu audiovisual que seria seguido por outras capitais e cidades brasileiras, além de ter se constituído num centro cultural de vanguarda nas décadas de 60 e 70 do século XX, lugar de encontros e lançamentos de idéias e novos comportamentos. Além de abrigar importantes arquivos que atendem aos interesses de um público pesquisador amplo e diversificado, o prédio da Fundação Museu da Imagem e do Som é, em si mesmo, uma das mais belas peças de sua coleção, constituindo um exemplar histórico raro dos edifícios construídos para abrigar a Exposição do Centenário da Independência do Brasil, realizada em 1922. Localizado na Praça XV, e inserido na Zona Especial do Corredor Cultural da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, junto com o Museu Histórico Nacional, o Museu Naval, o Paço Imperial, a Casa França-Brasil e o Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, em 1989 o Instituto Estadual de Patrimônio Cultural (Inepac) do Governo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro promoveu o tombamento do prédio. Em outubro de 1990, pela Lei nº 1.714, o MIS foi transformado numa fundação, dirigida por um presidente.

O Museu da Maré é o primeiro museu do país localizado dentro de uma favela, e foi criado pela própria comunidade, com o apoio do Ministério da Cultura, através do programa Cultura Viva. Inaugurado no dia 8 de maio de 2006. Seu acervo, em construção permanente, é formado por fotografias, documentos, objetos do cotidiano dos moradores da favela e por documentos e objetos históricos sobre a Maré, pesquisados em arquivos públicos da cidade. Sua exposição permanente é dividida em doze “tempos” não-cronológicos, onde os espaços contam a história dos moradores, imigrantes do Nordeste em sua maioria, e episódios da resistência social das comunidades.

The North Carolina Museum of Art's collection spans more than 5,000 years, from ancient Egypt to the present. The ancient collection includes Egyptian funerary art and important examples of sculpture and vase painting from the Greek and Roman worlds. The collection of European paintings and sculpture from the Renaissance through impressionism is internationally celebrated with important works by Giotto, Sandro Botticelli, Raphael, Anthony van Dyck, Peter Paul Rubens, Antonio Canova and Claude Monet. American art of the 18th and 19th centuries features paintings by John Singleton Copley, Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins and William Merritt Chase. Modern art includes major works by such American artists as Marsden Hartley, Georgia O'Keeffe, Franz Kline, Frank Stella, Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Murray and Joel Shapiro. Modern European masters include Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Delvaux, Henry Moore, Anselm Kiefer and Gerhard Richter. Galleries are also devoted to African, Ancient American and Oceanic Art, as well as Jewish ceremonial art.

The Grey Nuns' convent, Winnipeg's oldest building, houses Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum. Built for the Grey Nuns who arrived in the Red River Colony in 1844, the structure is an outstanding example of Red River frame construction. The Museum presents an impressive collection of artifacts that reveal the lives and culture of the Francophone and Métis communities of Manitoba, including a special exhibit about Louis Riel, the "father" of Manitoba.

From Battery Park, you can take the ferry across to the famous Ellis Island Immigration Museum. You will be astounded by the wealth of information they have. Make sure you check out the American Family Immigration History Center where you can access passenger records. A great sense of pride comes with finding out about your family’s history by accessing this great interactive exhibit. The museum is also currently featuring a special exhibit in the west wing “The Spirit of America” Gibson Les Paul guitar is up on display. Made of artifacts preserved during the centennial restoration of the island, this exhibit is an amazing mixture of art, culture and beauty. Wood grain details from the preserved steps and doors of the main building really catch the eye, while the copper inlay is composed of copper preserved from the Statue of Liberty National Monument. While the creators seem to use the universal language of music to send a message of freedom and convey a great sense of pride for the land we call America. The oldest lighthouse in New York State. The Lighthouse was authorized by the Second Congress, under President George Washington in 1792. Construction began on June 7, 1796 and was completed on November 5, 1796. This historic landmark has been part of Long Island's land and seascape for over 200 years and still serves as an active aid to navigation.

Founded in 1822, the RIHS is the fourth-oldest historical society in the United States and is Rhode Island’s largest and oldest historical organization. In Providence, the RIHS owns and operates the John Brown House and Museum, a designated National Historic Landmark, built in 1788; the Aldrich House, built in 1822 and used for administration and public programs; and the Library of Rhode Island History, where archival, book and image collections are housed. In Woonsocket the RIHS manages the Museum of Work and Culture, a community museum examining the industrial history of northern Rhode Island and of the workers and settlers, especially French-Canadians, who made it one of the state’s most distinctive areas.

Construída por volta de 1860, pelo médico José Martins Rocha, a casa é vendida ao Industrial Português José Francisco Correia - Visconde de Sande e depois Conde de Agrolongo (Títulos recebidos em Portugal).
Em 1903, o Conde retira-se para Portugal e põe a residência a leilão com todos os seus pertences, não aparecendo comprador. Pela mesma época a Capital era transferida de Petrópolis para Niterói e o Governador Nilo Peçanha resolveu adquirir o palacete para sede do governo, consumando-se a venda em 1904. Durante os 71 anos seguintes, teve o Palácio, 43 ocupantes entre governadores interinos e interventores federais. |

A Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa tem sede na casa onde residiu o grande jurista e intelectual brasileiro entre 1895 e 1923, data de sua morte. Comprada pelo governo brasileiro em 1924, juntamente com a biblioteca, os arquivos e a propriedade intelectual das obras de Rui Barbosa, a casa foi aberta ao público como museu - o primeiro museu-casa do Brasil - em 1930.

O Museu Judaico do Rio de Janeiro, fundado em 1977, com a doação de uma menorá (candelabro de sete braços, um dos principais símbolos do judaísmo), é um centro cultural dinâmico, integrado à vida da cidade com atividades estruturadas em torno do binômio preservação da memória/dinamização da cultura judaica.

A Igreja sempre se utilizou da arte como forma de anúncio da Palavra de Deus. Durante algum tempo, por exemplo, como boa parte do povo era analfabeta, usava-se a "Bíblia dos pobres", enorme e cheia de figuras, através das quais dava-se a evangelização. Assim, com o objetivo de reunir algumas obras de inspiração divina e promover uma síntese da presença da Igreja na história da arte no Brasil, idealizou-se o Museu Arquidiocesano de Arte Sacra, o MAAS. O museu reúne, em seu acervo, escultura, pintura, mobiliário, prataria, indumentária religiosa, medalhística, somando, ao todo, mais de 4.300 peças, nem todas, ainda, em exposição. Dentre as peças expostas, destacam-se a "Inspiração de São Pedro", pintada por Pedro Américo; uma cabeça de anjo esculpida por Mestre Valentim e que pertenceu à Igreja de São Pedro dos Clérigos, igreja esta, demolida para a construção da Av. Presidente Vargas; além de toda a prataria - objetos religiosos - que pertenceu à Catedral de Lisboa e que veio para o Brasil com D. João VI. Boa parte das peças do museu são provenientes do período Barroco, período este, caracterizado pelo excesso na ornamentação e pela exuberância das formas

O Museu do Açude situa-se na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, no coração da Floresta da Tijuca, numa área de 150 mil metros quadrados e tem o propósito de relacionar o patrimônio cultural ao natural. Sua sede no estilo neocolonial, cercada pela mata atlântica é a antiga residência de verão de Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya (1894-1968). Apresenta coleção de azulejos, painéis franceses, holandeses, espanhóis e portugueses dos séculos XVII ao XIX. Louça do Porto, fabricada a partir do século XIX em Portugal, além de exemplares raros de escultura chinesa, indiana e porcelanas de procedências diversas. O Museu ganhou destaque por ser o cenário externo da mansão da viúva Porcina, vivida pela atriz Regina Duarte na novela Roque Santeiro.

Construído em 1914, com o objetivo de reforçar a defesa da Baía de Guanabara, o Forte de Copacabana oferece aos seus visitantes muitas curiosidades e atrações. No Museu Histórico do Exército, fatos marcantes estão registrados através de exposições, exibições de vídeo, maquetes e, até, um setor interativo, original e bastante visitado pelos freqüentadores do Forte. O Instituto Ciência Hoje (ICH) é uma organização social de interesse público sem fins lucrativos vinculada à Sociedade Brasileira para o Progresso da Ciência (SBPC).
O site Ciência Hoje On-line é uma iniciativa pioneira de divulgação científica na internet brasileira. Além de disponibilizar parte do conteúdo das publicações do ICH, o site publica notícias exclusivas atualizadas diariamente que oferecem ao leitor uma cobertura dinâmica da atualidade científica no Brasil e no mundo. Em 2007, foi lançado, em parceria com o Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas, o livro Física Hoje - Uma aventura pela natureza: dos átomos ao universo, que reúne 11 artigos escritos por renomados pesquisadores brasileiros e originalmente publicados na revista Ciência Hoje ao longo de 2005, em comemoração ao Ano Mundial da Física. O ICH atua também na divulgação científica em meios audiovisuais: o Instituto promoveu a realização do programa de televisão Tome Ciência, uma série semanal que abordou de forma acessível temas de ciência e tecnologia.. The DOCKYARD MUSEUM in the Naval Officer's House interprets the story of English Harbour and of the people that toiled in this famous Georgian Royal Naval Yard. It also explains the 20th century return of sailing ships and the aims and aspirations of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. There is also a small "Nelson's Room" with a life sized portrait of Nelson researched through archaeological means.
