Pier 96 offers Walk up Kayaking every weekend and holiday from 9AM until 6PM with the last boat going out at 5:30, and weekday evenings from 5PM-7PM with the last boat going out at 6:30PM in July and August. Introductory classes are held at Pier 96 every Wednesday at 6PM.
The Downtown Boathouse is an all volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free public access to the harbor in New York City through public kayaking programs. Downtown Boathouse's mission is to encourage safe public use of the harbor waters of New York City and thereby provide residents of this space-constrained city with increased recreational opportunities. It supports our operations exclusively through public donations and the efforts of volunteers.

O Parque Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, conhecido como Aterro do Flamengo, possui 1.200.000m² de área verde à beira-mar,com arbustos floridos, uma profusão de árvores, compondo uma das mais visitadas e belas áreas de lazer da cidade. A idealização do parque foi de Lota Macedo Soares, de família da elite carioca. Não fez universidade mas foi aluna de Cândido Portinari e tornou-se uma esteta com conhecimento de arquitetura e urbanismo. Lota era também conhecida por sua curiosidade e conhecimento de plantas.
Lota teve a idéia de iluminar o aterro à noite para permitir passeios noturnos no parque. As quadras de esporte foram idéia sua, que são alugadas todos os dias do ano, inclusive de madrugada, quando ficam tomadas por times de várias associações. Com o aval do governador, de então, Carlos Lacerda, reuniu um grupo de amigos notáveis para materializar o projeto: o paisagista Roberto Burle Marx, o botânico Luiz Emygdio de Mello Filho e os arquitetos Affonso Eduardo Reidy, Sérgio Bernardes e Jorge Moreira.

O site Ciência Hoje On-line é uma iniciativa pioneira de divulgação científica na internet brasileira. Além de disponibilizar parte do conteúdo das publicações do ICH, o site publica notícias exclusivas atualizadas diariamente que oferecem ao leitor uma cobertura dinâmica da atualidade científica no Brasil e no mundo.
Em 2007, foi lançado, em parceria com o Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas, o livro Física Hoje - Uma aventura pela natureza: dos átomos ao universo, que reúne 11 artigos escritos por renomados pesquisadores brasileiros e originalmente publicados na revista Ciência Hoje ao longo de 2005, em comemoração ao Ano Mundial da Física.
O ICH atua também na divulgação científica em meios audiovisuais: o Instituto promoveu a realização do programa de televisão Tome Ciência, uma série semanal que abordou de forma acessível temas de ciência e tecnologia.. Em outubro de 2004, o ICH se uniu à Rede Globo na campanha Ciência Vale a Pena.

A Confeitaria Cavé ou, simplesmente, Cavé, data de 1860. É a mais antiga confeitaria do Rio de Janeiro. Foi fundada por Charles Auguste Cavé, francês que ficou a frente do negócio até 1922. Entrar nela é voltar ao passado, reviver um pouco do Rio Antigo. A arquitetura marcante da Cavé possui influências de diversos países. Lustres, vitrais e vidros em geral eram franceses; as cadeiras e mesas foram projetadas por Cólon, um espanhol que residia no Brasil.

O Santuário da Penha conta com uma grande infra-estrutura que vem sendo melhorada incansavelmente para acolher a todos os Romeiros que sempre comparecem em grande quantidade, principalmente na época de festa. O Santuário da Penha fica em uma enorme e belíssima área verde, com uma localização de fácil acesso, seja pela Linha Vermelha, Linha Amarela ou Avenida Brasil. Em estilo eclético, fortemente influenciado pelos estilos clássicos franceses Luís XV e XVI, o Palácio das Laranjeiras, também conhecido como Palácio Guanabara, é um dos maiores patrimônios arquitetônicos do povo do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Reformado, tornou-se a residência da Princesa Isabel e seu esposo, o Conde d'Eu, sendo conhecido a partir de então como Palácio Isabel. Entre 1912 e 1947 foi residência da família do Dr. Eduardo Guinle.. O palácio foi utilizado pelo presidente Getúlio Vargas como residência oficial durante o Estado Novo (1937-1945). Em 1956, passa a ser residência oficial dos Presidentes da República. Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira é o primeiro Presidente a residir no Laranjeiras. Em 1974, com a fusão dos antigos estados da Guanabara e do Rio de Janeiro, promovida pelo então Presidente Ernesto Geisel, o Palácio é cedido ao novo Estado do Rio de Janeiro para servir de residência oficial de seus Governadores
