A wife caught in the act, her lover fleeing the scene, a suit left behind. It’s the perfect recipe for a husband’s punishing, humiliating decree: go on with business as usual, he says to his spouse, but take your lover’s suit everywhere you go as a ghostly reminder of your betrayal. Using an innovative staging that integrates live musicians directly into the action, Brook makes Themba’s volatile work sing. A hummed “Strange Fruit,” African melodies, and Schubert lieder thicken the tense, poisoned air of this apartheid-era summer in which a shared wound was not allowed to heal.
Dating from its first performance in 1861, BAM has grown into a thriving urban arts center that brings international performing arts and film to Brooklyn. The first BAM facility at 176-194 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights was originally conceived by the Philharmonic Society of Brooklyn as a home for its concerts. It housed a large theater seating 2,200, a smaller concert hall, dressing and chorus rooms, and a vast "baronial" kitchen. BAM presented both amateur and professional music and theater productions. Performers included Ellen Terry, Edwin Booth, Tomas Salvini, and Fritz Kreisler.

Belmont Park is a 430-acre racetrack in Elmont, N.Y. There are two race meetings at Belmont Park in 2012: the 56-day Spring/Summer meeting will be from April 27 to July 15; and the 37-day Fall Championship meeting will be from Sept. 8 to Oct. 28. The area which is now known as Elizabeth Park was once owned by Charles H. Pond. Mr. Pond was a wealthy industrialist and statesman whose career included the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, Hartford National Bank, and Treasurer of the State of Connecticut.
Today the park encompasses 102 acres and boasts many garden areas, pathways, greenhouses, lawns, a picnic grove, a pond and recreation areas.

The Dakota Zoo opened its gates on June 3, 1961 on 15 acres of developed land, with 75 mammals and 23 birds, and 40,000 visitors passed through the gates that first year. Today, thanks to the continued support of members, visitors, donors and volunteers, the Dakota Zoo has grown to a 90 acre facility housing 600 animals, birds, reptiles and fish representing 125 species and visited by more than 130,000 people each year.

A Fundação Planetário do Rio é um centro de pesquisa e divulgação da ciência Astronomia e de ciências afins. Popular e lúdico, o Planetário do Rio oferece aos seus visitantes cursos, exposições temporárias, exposição permanente com 56 experimentos interativos, sessões de cúpula, visitação guiada ao museu com monitores e observações do céu semanais. A Fundação Planetário, vinculada à Secretaria das Culturas da Prefeitura do Rio, está situada no bairro da Gávea, Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro.

O Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil (CCBB) do Rio de Janeiro é um dos quatro CCBBs do país, que também existem nas capitais Brasília, São Paulo e Belo Horizonte. O Observatório Nacional foi criado oficialmente por D. Pedro I em 15 de outubro de 1827. Entre suas finalidades estava a orientação e estudos geográficos do território brasileiro e de ensino da navegação. Entretanto, segundo o Padre Serafim Leite, em 1730, os jesuítas instalaram um observatório no Morro do Castelo, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
O Observatório Nacional, atualmente, tem a missão de realizar pesquisa e desenvolvimento em Astronomia, Geofísica e Metrologia em Tempo e Freqüência, formar pesquisadores em seus cursos de pós-graduação, capacitar profissionais, coordenar projetos e atividades nacionais nestas áreas e gerar, manter e disseminar a Hora Legal Brasileira.

Situado no bairro de Cidade Jardim, o hipódromo está distante apenas oito quilômetros do centro da capital paulista, com fácil acesso pela marginal do Rio Pinheiros – via pontes Eusébio Mattoso e Cidade Jardim. A entrada é gratuita e há um amplo estacionamento disponível para os visitantes. Não é necessário o uso de trajes especiais, exceção à exigência de paletó e gravata para os homens nos dias de grandes prêmios e, mesmo assim, apenas para o trânsito em determinadas dependências do clube como no primeiro andar das tribunas sociais.

Fundado em 1932, o Jockey Club Brasileiro teve como primeiro presidente Linneo de Paula Machado, que foi o responsável pela construção do Hipódromo da Gávea, a maior obra da cidade na época. Lá é realizado anualmente o Grande Prêmio Brasil, a prova de maior expressão do turfe nacional, também famosa pela elegância dos trajes dos visitantes da festa. O Jockey Club também possui uma sede social no Centro do Rio de Janeiro, localizada num prédio de 12 andares, projeto assinado pelo arquiteto Lúcio Costa. As dependências são amplas e espaçosas, contando com 363 salas para escritórios, sete lojas, um auditório servido por elevadores especiais, 13 andares de estacionamento para 800 carros. No 11º e 12º andares, os jardins são de Burle Marx e os interiores do arquiteto Jorge Hue. Atividades: piscina, hidroginástica, saunas, massagiata, estética, quadra poliesportiva, ginástica.
